Carlton Palmer's appointment to Mansfield Town will perhaps go down as one of the most controversial appointments by the club.

Arriving in November 2004 after Keith Curle was sent on gardening duty to an approach from his friend and chairman of the Stags, Keith Haslam.

After 5 months as Caretaker Manager the former Premier League and England box to box midfielder was appointed as the Manager.

After attempting to rebuild the Mansfield Town squad with the comings and goings of some of the Stags fans favourites, the relationship with Palmer and the fans became growingly difficult and eventually toxic.

Palmer eventually resigned in somewhat unusual fashion in a post match interview with Mansfield 103.2 radio after a terrible game against Rochdale.

In this clip, Carlton Palmer lays it all out in an honest and passionate account of what lead to that resignation and why he felt one man (Peter Shirtliff) was undermining him whilst as Manager of Mansfield Town.
