Every dog lover has experienced it: that moment when a normal dog suddenly goes crazy. Your mild mannered pup is replaced by a wild monster who is running around the home, crashing into everything and, it seems, having a great time. This French Bulldog isn’t just clumsy or restless. He gets this distinctive behavior which is called dog zoomies and they are what they sound like. It’s hard not to smile when you see this joyful Frenchie running wildly from one to another side on the bed.

He breaks into a flat out gallop from a standing start. Sometimes right in the middle of the bedroom, and for the most part he is completely normal and highly entertaining. Some dogs may have a particular trigger or triggers. Such as after grooming, a game or a bath.

These bursts of activity, makes this dog run around and races from one end of the bed to the other, sometimes spinning in circles and with a bit of a wild glint in his eyes. When this surge of energy is wasted, the Frenchie will end up in a contented and exhausted flop onto the ground.

The zoomies are also known as Frenetic Random Activity Periods, or FRAPS, which is almost as cool a name as the zoomies. FRAPs are a totally normal release of pent up energy. While zoomies in dogs and the frantic movements your dog exhibits when they hit might seem concerning, they are actually a normal part of happy dog behavior, and as long as your dog is zooming in a safe space, it’s nothing to be concerned about. It’s like a wind up toy that was wound to the max. The zoomies are most likely a way to relieve stress. Which means, in a way, the zoomies could be a sign your dog is feeling happy and healthy.
