Man Gets Berated For Eating On The BART Train

There is a list of certain rules a public transport passenger must follow in order to ensure the proper use and upkeep of the vehicles. Every mode of public transportation has signs that urge users to maintain the hygiene in the cars. Still, some folks decide go around those rules or at least bend them a little. When other law-abiding citizens take note of this behavior, you bet they will make some noise. And someone did, right in front of another passenger’s camera.

One passenger tried to alert BART police, no less, when he noticed a fellow traveler eating on the train. This occurred on June 22 during the after-work commute on the Dublin/Pleasanton line near the Fruitvale station. Naturally, our bright fellow cameraman posted this on Reddit.

The footage shows an older man in a Hawaiian shirt asking another man sitting opposite him to get off the train because he is eating a burrito. "You can't wait. A sign says no eating and drinking. You don't get it? You don't get it. You must be stupid. I've seen people like you on TV," the man yells at the hungry passenger, while this guy does absolutely nothing.

The disgruntled gentleman then proceeds to walk over to the BART car intercom to talk to the train operator. “Yes please. Can we get a policeman on board? We’ve got someone dining in the first car,” the man can be heard telling the operator.

A BART spokesperson told media no calls or BART App Watch messages came in about a passenger eating a burrito on a train over the past week. They also say the intercom does not reach BART police, but it allows communication with the train operator.

It all seemed to end peacefully when the burrito-eater got off at the coliseum station in Oakland. However hilarious the exchange was, we still do not encourage behavior like this. Besides, eating and drinking is indeed illegal on BART and subject to a $250 fine.

"A man sat down on BART and began eating a burrito. The man sitting next to him across the aisle began berating him for eating on the train. The guy eating the burrito did not respond to the man and continued eating his burrito as several people on the train we're laughing.

“It seemed like the man was upset that he couldn't stop this rogue burrito eating, so he went to the intercom, which calls the train operator and asked the operator to send BART police to address the man 'dining' on the train. Other people continued to laugh as the man sat down and explained to his female companion that it's against the rules to eat on the train since she was telling him to stop.

“The guy eating the burrito then got off at the Oakland Coliseum BART Station. Police never came and it was reported that BART police did not receive a call to respond to the burrito situation," wrote Reddit user R0b815.

This incident comes in the wake of several similar cases in the Bay Area of people being caught on video calling police or otherwise misbehaving over seemingly trivial issues.
