Guy Uses Plastic Dish To Slide Down A Jumping Ski Slope

Ski jumping has been part of the Olympic Winter Games since the first Games in Chamonix Mont-Blanc in 1924. The normal hill competition was included on the Olympic programme for the 1964 Innsbruck Games. From 1988, the team event was added as a third competition.

In ski jumping, it's all about how far you fly. Skiers initially hold their bodies in a position so that to gain as much speed as possible coming down the take-off ramp, or in-run. But once in the air, athletes change their posture and the position of their skis to maximize air lift, which increases the length of their jump. Ski jumpers used to hold their skis parallel to each other, but learned that they could catch more of the air pushing up underneath them if they separated their skis, with the tails pointing toward each other. This V shape has been the standard style since the 1990s.

We are all familiar with the Olympic Games and we know that ski jumping is part of it. However, what we didn’t know is that one can slide down a ski slope with no skis and without snow. How is that possible you may ask, well it made us wonder, too until we watched the video. Then we got the picture. The video is taking place In Oslo, Norway and it shows a man doing a slide on a huge platform for ski jumping height of 150 meters. The speed reached 83 km /h. This is what the brave “skier” said: "In the video you see 'me' sliding down a massive 150 meter long ski jumping landing made of plastic. My speed was measured at 83 km/h."

Obviously, jumping with skis is a lot different than zooming down with a piece of plastic. It can get very dangerous any time during the slide and the consequences might not be that good. If we stay focused on the bright side, then we can say he totally made it down the slope and he darted past our eyes at an incredible speed. Is he so skilled or was it his lucky day we can’t say since we can’t judge by only one video of him. However, we have to admit that it took our breath away and that he really had the nerve to do it. Hail to that - it was crazy and stupid but very courageous. Just the thought of this unusual activity sends shivers down our spine, but we are all different and we crave different things. Some are adventurous and some are cautious, some have itchy feet while others lead sedentary lives. No matter what our preferences are, we shouldn’t judge anybody.

The man can be seen “saddling” the dish and getting ready for the quick slide. Once he sits on the plastic, there he whizzes down like a lightning bolt, one time he is up and the next we see him all smiles at the bottom. When he gets around, he screams “What?” looking back at the slope. Obviously, he can’t believe his eyes, too. It was probably his first time doing this insane slide.
