The Montreal STM Is Pushing For Its Officers To Have More Power
The STM ( société transport de Montréal) is trying to move forward with plans to change the STM inspectors’s status to special constable. This means that the inspectors would have more power but also be held more accountable for their actions.
Their new powers would include things like being able to issue towing, give parking tickets to cars that are parked in the bus lanes, intervene during certain crime implications and access criminal databases.
According to the STM the leading reasons for pushing the status change is to hold the inspectors more accountable for their actions and to enable the inspectors to take action when it comes to cars parking in the bus lanes.
