While promoting the new season of "America's Got Talent," Howie Mandel praised fellow judge Simon Cowell for his “frankness." When Extra asked Mandel, "How grumpy is Simon?" He replied, "I haven't seen a grump." Mandel also revealed, “If he sees that somebody onstage was taken aback by what he says, what you don’t see on TV is when we go to commercial, he’ll go up and console them and support them… He’s like everybody’s dad.”
