The occurrence of this cancerous brain tumor is relatively rare. But even if it is rare, it is considered to be the most common malignant brain tumor of childhood. It is more common in boys than girls. Medulloblastoma is often most found in children who are younger than 16 years old. But this type of brain tumor can also be found in adults although such occurrence is a rarity. The cause of medulloblastoma in most patients is unknown.

A child's survival rate if they have medulloblastoma depends on his or her age and as to how far the tumor has spread. The survival rate is 70% to 80% if the disease has not yet spread. It is 60% if the disease has spread to the spinal cord.

Medulloblastoma, like most cancers, is treatable. The treatment options for medulloblastoma is a combination of therapies which includes surgery, radiation or chemotherapy or both. The surgery is done first and it is followed by radiation or chemotherapy. The patient can choose to have both radiation or chemotherapy. The surgery is done to relieve fluid buildup caused by medulloblastoma in the brain. It is also done to remove the medulloblastoma itself.

Having a cancer is a very big burden to carry. Adults who have cancer even feel very fearful and sad when they learn that they have cancer. So, if a child has a medulloblastoma then the weight carried by that child is more than that of an adult. Every gesture of kindness towards a child with medulloblastoma goes a long way for such a child. That child would feel very elated if someone were to show him or her even the tiniest bit of kindness.
