Parking garage suicide attempt rescue by police
Around 1 p.m. at the top of the parking garage at the Volusia County Courthouse in DeLand, a 16-year-old had just left a court hearing that upset him. He went to the ledge and was on the verge of jumping when Volusia Sheriff's deputies, DeLand police and a DCF caseworker moved in to pull him to safety.
He wasn't injured aside from some abrasions from the concrete, and he's now getting some help from people who care about him.
It's nothing to be ashamed of. We are all just glad he's OK. Remember if you find yourself feeling this way, or if you're worried about someone else, there's a free, confidential, national hotline available 24/7 at 1-800-273-8255.
All involved in the quick response during this young man's time of need will be receiving an award for their actions.
