Charles Portis, the legendary Arkansas author known for the classic Western novel “True Grit” died on Monday.
According to Reuters, Portis was 86 years old and had been battling a long illness.
He wrote five novels, numerous magazine articles, short stories, and one stage play.
Portis’ death was confirmed by his brother, who said he had been in hospice care for two years.
Portis's brother also confirmed he had lived in a care facility for Alzheimer’s patients before that.
