“The Matrix” co-creator Lilly Wachowski blasted Tesla CEO Elon Musk and White House adviser Ivanka Trump on Sunday for tweeting out a comment about taking the “red pill,” a common internet term popularized by the sci-fi film series.
Musk, who has been a vocal critic of California’s lockdown orders and threatened to move Tesla production to Texas, has been using Twitter to attack what he sees as government overreach during the coronavirus pandemic.

Shortly after tweeting that out, Trump responded, “Taken!” This prompted Wachowski, who co-wrote and co-directed the film trilogy with her sister, to respond “F--- both of you.”

"Take the red pill" is a reference in the blockbuster movie when the character Morpheus (Lawrence Fishburne) reveals to the protagonist Neo (Keanu Reeves) that he's been living in a computer simulation. Neo has a choice: Take a blue pill and go back to his life as usual, or take a red pill to learn the truth about his fake reality.
It has since been adopted on the right as a metaphor in internet subculture, and it usually refers to some conservative or men's rights groups beliefs that feminists and liberals often control the media and cultural narrative.
Meanwhile, the mother of Grimes, Sandy Garossino, also blasted Musk, the father of her daughter's newborn baby. In a now-deleted tweet Garossino accused him of "blaring men's rights activist bulls***" after he sent out the Red Pill comment.
Grimes gave birth to their son two weeks ago.
"If your partner went through a challenging pregnancy and childbirth in the last two weeks, and you were over 16 years old, would you be blaring MRA bulls*** on Twitter right now?' Garossino wrote.
