Dutch citizens celebrate New Years Eve despite firework ban

The Hague, the Netherlands - Despite controversial Prime minister Mark Rutte has called on people to stay home during the New Year festivities, dozens of Dutch citizens went out to the streets to celebrate New Year's Eve with family and friends.

In the four major cities, the turn of the year went relatively quiet, with occasional incidents.

Controversial Prime minister Mark Rutte had made an urgent appeal to people not to set off fireworks during the festivities, which is a populair tradition for many people in the Netherlands. Also, the controversial leader demanded Dutch citizens to not have gatherings with more than 4 people.

The prime minister of the Netherlands is currently involved into a large scandal in which tens of thousands of parents were discriminated and wrongly labeled fraudsters by government officials assessing claims for child benefit payments. The report titled “Unprecedented Injustice” was issued following an investigation by a parliamentary committee and public questioning of officials up to and including prime minister Mark Rutte, who's ultimately responsible for the past 10 years, into the scandal.
