Royal Printer's Watermark

This video shows a detail on one of the 1612 Quarto-sized King James Version pages in the Museum of the English Bible in Cumberland, Maryland. The initial printings of the King James Bible were done by two different shops. They were the "royal printers" for these editions. This 1612 First Quarto edition page was printed by Robert Barker. When you hold the page up to the light, the royal printer watermark pops out into view.

This is part of one of the museum's hands-on exhibits. Guests are encouraged to pick it up and look at the page in the light!
