The Homeless Population In The United States Continues To Grow Nationwide Including In Denver, Colorado Where City Council Members Allocated Another $10 Million Dollars This Month To Pay For Hotel Rooms For The Homeless.

Homeless Camps In Denver Have Popped Up In Recent Years Littering The Sidewalks With Hundreds Of Tents, Trash, Needles, Buckets Of Feces And Even Propane Tanks.

In Fact Last Year The City Had To Shutdown Memorial Park - Which Sits Directly In Front Of Denver's Capitol Building - Because The Massive Homeless Camp There Caused A Rat Infestation.

The Tents Are Being Set Up On Sidewalks, In Front Businesses And Even Right Outside Of People's Homes And Apartments.

I Spoke With Some Denver Residents Who Told Me They've Attempted To Clear The Tents Out From In Front Of Their Homes Only To Have More Pop Up Hours Later.

They Also Tell Me That The Homeless Camps Are Drug Infested And Filled With Angry, Hostile Homeless People Some Of Whom Have Mental Disorders Making For Very Unsafe Living Conditions For Residents Of The City.

Many Of The Residents I Spoke With Are Blaming The Policies Of Governor Jared Polis And Mayor Michael Hancock For What They Call The Dyer Situation.

According The The State Of Homelessness 2020 Report - More Than 31,000 People In The Denver Metro Area Accessed Services Related To Homelessness Between July Of 2019 And June Of 2020. Experts Say That The Pandemic Has Greatly Increased Those Numbers Asserting The Annual Point In Time Survey For 2021 Is A Significant Under Count Of The Actual Number Of Homeless In The Mile High State.

In Addition, The Latest Report Shows That More Than 26% Of Homeless In The Region Are Black Even Though The African American Population Makes Up Just Over 5% Of The Total Population In The Region.

The Report Indicates That The Leading Cause Of Homelessness In The Denver Metro Area Is Due To A Lack Of Affordable Housing Coupled With Systemic Racial Inequities.

The Hotel Program For The Homeless That Denver City Council Has Approved And Extended Will Cost The City More Than $27 Million Dollars By June.

The Skyrocketing Homeless Population Is Also Becoming A Major Issue In Seattle Washington.

According To Local Media, The Homeless Encampments In Seattle Have Become Dangerous.

In Recent Months 60 Calls Were Made To 911 To Report Dangerous Activity From The Homeless Population Which Included Five Domestic Violence Incidents, Four Assaults, Three Sex Offenses And An Incident Where A Police Officer Was Nearly Burned Alive In His Cruiser.

Residents Say That Drugs Run Rampant In The Camps And That The Homeless Have Become Very Hostile Often Times Threatening The General Public.

Residents Say They Are So Concerned For Their Safety They No Longer Go To The Park.

And According To Local Media In Philadelphia, Their Homeless Population Has Tripled In The Last Year With More Homeless People Being Forced To Sleep On The Streets As The Shelters Must Comply With Covid-19 Restrictions Which Mean Fewer Beds.

HUD's Most Recent Report Shows That There Were Nearly 600,000 Homeless People Nationwide In 2020.
They Say Those Numbers Don't Reflect The Extensive Impact Of The Pandemic, Saying It's Only Made Things Worse.
