The woman at the well - When we sin | Bible Study | Lie #1: God Punishes Us Series | Part 7

In the conversation happening between Jesus and the woman at the well, we get to see how Jesus, the Jewish Messiah, relates to this woman, an unrepented sinner. She had made many mistakes in her life, like we all do, but Jesus does not dwell on that part of her life nor does He make her feel bad about it.

Instead, He gives her the opportunity to repent, and she does. There is absolutely no mention of God punishing her. Jesus doesn’t take the conversation any further about what she did wrong, or anything else. It is obvious from their exchange that she wanted to repent – meaning, to stop sinning, but she didn’t know how. She probably didn’t think she could do it on her own and she was right. Her life is evidence – trying to do the right thing and failing in marriage five times, and now kind of giving up on the thing.

Jesus is talking to her about the Goodness of God, and in this particular case He implies that the Goodness of God turns people away from their sins. When we seek God, we will find what is it we have been looking for through sin.
