Heizer Defense Pocket AK

When someone designs a crazy gun, I'm usually ready to try it out. Enter the Heizer Defense PAK1...a pocket-sized pistol chambered for the AK round. As crazy as it sounds, it wasn't as bad as I expected it to be. Recoil was certainly more than a 9mm, but was much less than I anticipated. I'm guessing being a little heavier and having a lot of porting helped in that department. It does have a heavy trigger (probably a good idea considering the lack of a safety and the round chambered). Although I wasn't really testing for accuracy, I've seen other reports that show you can group very well at handgun distance (5-10 yards).

I learned that during the break-in period (about 30 rounds), you may have to engage the firing pin several times and push down on the barrel to get the gun to swing open after shooting. This trick worked like a charm and despite my difficulty swinging it open after firing in the video, a little web surfing after the test-fire revealed the trick (of course I found out it was also in the owner's manual).

This is not a real practical gun...more of a novelty, but I found it interesting and actually fun to shoot even though it won't replace my EDC. There are plenty of internet keyboard warriors ready to pronounce it as "junk" without even shooting it, but If you get a chance to try one out at the range, I'd recommend it for a fun change of pace and just to say you did.
