‘Mickey’s PhilharMagic’ Debuts New ‘Coco’ Scene at Disneyland Resort and Disneyland Paris, Coming Soon to Walt Disney World Resort for 50th Anniversary Celebration

Dim the lights for a new “Coco” scene in “Mickey’s PhilharMagic”!

Beginning today, guests of the Disneyland Resort and Disneyland Paris can don their opera glasses at the fan-favorite attraction and experience the addition of the musical number “Un Poco Loco,” from Disney and Pixar’s “Coco.” One of the original composers of “Coco” – Germaine Franco – produced a score unique to “Mickey’s PhilharMagic.”

The 3D, animated scene extends Donald Duck’s musical journey, bringing the fantasy adventure to new heights alongside all the attraction’s fan-favorite musical numbers. The scene will be added to Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World Resort later this year during the Walt Disney World Resort 50th anniversary celebration.

In addition to Germaine Franco, Walt Disney Imagineering collaborated with Pixar and Disney Animation Studios to add the scene to the attraction’s other classic musical sequences. Learn more about the collaboration in this video!

Immerse yourself in the wonder of Disney animation and music when you experience this 12-minute, 3D movie starring Donald Duck.

A Cinematic Concert for the Eyes and Ears
Head over to the Sunset Showcase Theater in Hollywood Land to catch this spectacular 3D fantasy adventure featuring many beloved Disney characters!

As the lights dim, we find Donald Duck fast asleep. Mickey Mouse appears with music in hand and wakes Donald before rushing offstage to ready the show. As Donald warms up the orchestra, he spots the conductor’s baton and Mickey’s Sorcerer’s Hat. Deciding to try his hand at conducting the concert, he’s suddenly plunged into a 3D dream world of classic Disney animated musical sequences.

Some Very Special Effects
In addition to 3D, Mickey’s PhilharMagic features child friendly, in-house special effects throughout the presentation. These effects, created to further immerse you in the adventure, include light splashes of water and other fun surprises.

Mickey's PhilharMagic is a 4D film attraction found at the Magic Kingdom theme park in the Walt Disney World Resort, Hong Kong Disneyland, Tokyo Disneyland, Disneyland Park (Paris), and Disney California Adventure. The film was directed by George Scribner, who also directed Disney's 1988 animated film Oliver & Company. Mickey's PhilharMagic is a 12-minute-long show featuring 3D effects, scents, and water, as well as a number of characters from Disney movies. It is shown on the largest purpose-built 3D screen ever made, at 150 feet wide.

Music:
“Be Our Guest” - Beauty and the Beast
"The Sorcerer's Apprentice" - Fantasia
“Part of Your World” - The Little Mermaid
“I Just Can't Wait to Be King” - The Lion King
“Un Poco Loco” - Coco (California and Paris only)
“You Can Fly!” - Peter Pan
“A Whole New World” - Aladdin
“The Mickey Mouse Club March” - The Mickey Mouse Club

The attraction is unique in being one of a very select number of attractions in the Disney theme parks in which Walt Disney Imagineering has collaborated with another division of The Walt Disney Company – in this instance, it was Walt Disney Animation Studios. This same partnership developed the Fantasmic! shows at Disneyland and Disney's Hollywood Studios. Between the two companies, some of Disney's top talent worked together. Including Disney veteran Alex Mann, who was instrumental in developing and scripting the final story. Legendary Disney animator Glen Keane re-animated Ariel from The Little Mermaid in 3D, returning after animating her in 2D in the original film. Nik Ranieri, supervising animator of Lumière in Beauty and the Beast, also returned to animate that character in 3D. Most of Donald Duck's dialogue is actually archival recordings by his original voice actor, Clarence Nash. Tony Anselmo, Donald's current voice actor, recorded only five new lines for the character in this attraction (such as the scene where Donald hums to the tune of the song "Be Our Guest" from Disney's Beauty and the Beast) and a few more for the Coco segment.
