unarmed black man shot by Fontana Police while investigating a burglary complaint

Daverion Deauntre Kinard was shot and killed while hiding and sitting on a toilet the day before his 29th birthday by Fontana Police while investigating a burglary complaint. When officers made contact with Kinard in the vacant apartment, he fled on foot and hid in a portable toilet where police encountered him holding a metallic object which was later learned to be a lighter.

The city of Fontana already settled a million dollar for wrongful death for Kinard shooting. DA office is currently investigating the shooting.
