The Heidelberg Mine is near Noxon, Montana. Historically the site has been associated with the Noxon Mining District which is now part of the Kootenai National Forest. The site was first discovered in 1920 by R. J. Price Mining Company. The Heidelberg Mine is a underground mining operation. Initial production took place in 1936. Mine operations consist of underground workings. There is one known shaft. Subsurface length extends a maximum of 244 meters (800 feet). As of 1982 there were two known tabular shaped ore bodies of unknown dimensions. The host rock in this area is quartzite from the Neoproterozoic era 1.00 to 0.54 billion years ago. The Northern Rocky Mountains physiographic province of the Rocky Mountain System characterize the geomorphology of the surrounding area.
