Your normal NON *EXTREME* Series Chipsets only support *16* PCI-E Lanes, just enough for ONE GPU to run at the full X16. If 2 GPU's you'd have to SPLIT those lanes in Half so each GPU only gets X8/X8 Lanes. However, if you tossed 2 GPU's in with the i7-3820, you get MAX Bandwidth at X16/X16 (32 Lanes) with 8 LANES left over for a solid PCI Add-On Card like a Sound Card, PCI to NVME & much more, while having enough power to do so without compromise.
