Alisterus amboinensis (Linnaeus, 1766) The parrot-raja Ambon (Alisterus amboinensis), is a parrot endemic to the islands of Paleng, Maluku and West Papua in Indonesia. Sometimes, this bird is referred to as Nuri-raja Ambon or Nuri-raja Amboina, but these designations are misleading, because this bird is also found on many other islands besides Ambon. Males and females are similar in appearance, with the head and upper body predominantly red, wings green (blue in one subspecies), and blue back and tail. Six subspecies are recognized, but only a few of these are common in aviculture. In the wild, this bird inhabits rainforests and feeds on fruits, seeds and buds.
