How to fix: AC cold on one side and Hot opposite side 2002 Caravan

Description:
This is how to find and fix a common AC/Heat problem in your Caravan. Where one side blows cold and the opposite side is really hot, FULL HEAT and one or both sides temperatures won't adjust.

This principle applies to any vehicle that uses electrical slide temperature controls for AC & Heat. This video will show you how I diagnosed and fixed mine on my 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan Sport.

After completing the repairs you should do a environmental control panel calibration. Here's some instructions from Wayne Jones who commented below, Thanks Wayne.

Calibration:
If you have the exact same control panel here's how to do the calibration.
- 1. Turn the switch on...don't crank van or turn on the engine.
- 2. Press the power button and recycle button at the same time and hold them for several seconds until you see lights start to flash on the on the control panel. They will flash slowly on different buttons for a short time for about a minute. While they are flashing the computer is performing the calibration.
- 3. If the computer detects a problem a flash code will be flashed on the ac button light. Pauses in the flashes tells you that it is moving on to the second number and so on. ie. four flashes a pause and then two flashes mean code "42". Unfortunately I don't have the codes written down. You'll have do a google search for them.
- 4. If you see the code write it down and do a google search on it. Then perform the recommended repairs for that code and repeat the calibration.
- 5. I've been told a regular an OBD scanner tool will NOT show the codes as they are stored in the body control module and you must have a scanner that will read the "Body Module" codes.
- 6. I'm sorry I don't have any more information to pass on about this, if you have more information please comment below and I'll include it here.
I hope this helps someone. Parts and tools are listed below.

Parts I used:
- Dorman 604-003 Air Door Actuator, (Commonly called a Blend Door Actuator).
Approx. $20.00 Amazon Prime Two day shipping.
You can pick one up in town for about $30.00.

Tools I used:
- 8mm ¼” drive socket.
- ¼” Socket Drive Handle.
- 21mm ½” Drive Deep Socket
- 6” ½” Drive Extension.
- ½” Drive Ratchet.
- 1” #2 Phillips Stubby Screw Driver.

Chemicals I Used:
- PB Blaster Penetrating Oil.

- The top actuator controls where the air goes, the floor vents, upper vents blend of the floor and upper vents or defrost on the windshield. Note: if you put the controls to defrost the the last two settings the AC automatically comes on and turns off the recycle control, the one with the "U" turn symbol.
It's above the gas peddle behind the center console.

- Bottom Left Actuator controls the passenger vent above the radio and the passenger vent by the window.
It's above the gas peddle behind the center console.

- Bottom Right Actuator controls the drivers vent above the radio and the drivers vent by the window.
It's above the gas peddle behind the center console.

- The Center vent above the radio has no actuator per se. as it's connected to both left and right vents above the radio so it is actually a blend of both temperatures. If you put the drivers temp full cold and the passenger full hot, it will be a mix of the two temps, warm, not hot or cold.
So there is No location for the center: It's controlled by the three actuators above the gas peddle and behind the center console.

- Glove Box Actuator is the fresh air or recycle cabin air actuator. I show it at the end of the video.
