Demo and Repair of the Back Splash | Kitchen Counter Renovation | 2021/36

After seven years of looking at granite countertops that we just did not like, we decided to make a change finally! So new counter tops are coming. We are switching from black granite to a nice like Silestone Quartz Countertop.

The remove and installation of the new countertops was provided by Home Depot's contractor, and they were in and out in about three hours! I was responsible for the demolition and repair of the backsplash. I started by removing the existing porcelain 12x12 tiles, I was hoping to use a chipping hammer, but ultimately, I had to resort to a regular hammer and a pry bar to remove the tiles. An hour later and a giant dusty mess, I was done.

After I cleaned up all the broken tiles, it was on to the drywall removal, then installation of new drywall, joint compound, sanding, texture, sanding, new texture. I originally textured with the Wagner PowerTex Sprayer, but was having issues with my mixtures. So I switched to canned spray texture from Homex. This was a relatively small job, so it was affordable to use the canned option. After warming up the cans (Thanks Jeff from Home Renovision DIY), I had a flawless orange peel texture, and a happy wife! Two counts of Behr Premium Plus Paint! followed by a little touch-up, new outlet covers, and the kitchen is back in commission!
