In this video we go steelhead fishing and I break in my new Nova Tackle Midnight Series centerpin rod and my new beads I ordered from Bloop Beads. As fate would have it we ran into the owner of Bloop Beads and got to spend some time hanging out and fishing with Justin of Bloop Beads. So I have new toys and I am excited to see what happens! Bead fishing for steelhead is effective weather you are winter float fishing or spring float fishing for steelhead a good bead can be hard to beat! Bead fishing for steelhead seems stupid when you first try but you will find in many cases a steelhead bead will out produce spawn bags and lures! Lots of people I know and respect have sworn by bead. fishing for steelhead and they have these massive selections of steelhead beads and trout beads and salmon beads in every size and color imaginable. In the beginning I was as overwhelmed by bead selection as I am overwhelmed trying to pick a fly when fly fishing. Most of the guys I knew who were good at bead fishing all had different things to tell me about bead fishing for steelhead and most of them were making their own beads. Many fisherman recommended Slay n Steel Beads and Dirks Beads or Great Lakes Steelhead Company beads and with all the sizes colors and variety of materials the whole thing just seemed silly to a spawn bag guy who was new to float fishing anyway. After a few seasons experamenting with beads while steelhead fishing on the river I started learning from other peoples success and replicating it until I had my own success. I have had the pleasure of bead fishing for steelhead with several different steelhead guides over the last few years and they all run different float fishing rigs and use different float rods from spinning rods and baitcasters to centerpins but the one thing they all seem to agree about is that the steelhead bead is the go to bait and it out produces everything else. Why? I still don't know. I have now on multiple occasions used a bead and bag combo to have the fish kip out on a spawn bag to eat a plastic bead. So I assume this means the subtle nature of a plastic or glass steelhead bead is more enticing than a smelly spawn bag... So after being turned on to Bloop beads by some friends and after having some success bead fishing I came to the river with confidence in my bait and presesentation.

I also Just got an new Steelhead centerpin fishing rod 2 days previous and could not wait to break it in. I got a 13 foot Nova Tackle Midnight Series Centerpin rod! First of all Wow Nova Rocs are awesome but this one is the nicest rod I have ever used. Right off the bat the castability is incredible and it fights fish with ease. I have never felt more in control of a fish than I did with these 2 chrome steelhead. That is saying a lot because I am new to centerpin fishing and am much more at home having a drag system to rely on but with this centerpin rod the rod does so much of the work that my lack of skill and experience fighting fish on a centerpin rod suddenly didn't matter at all. I now am of the belief that the rod makes all the difference when it comes to centerpin fishing. And when it comes to fishing big rivers for steelhead the 13 foot moderate action rod makes getting tor bait in place so much easier.

We picked a nice day to go winter float fishing for steelhead. It was abnormally sunny and warm and the water was low and clear. The conditions were perfect for using the Bloopsie Daisy 10 mm bead from Bloop Beads. Grand River Steelhead fishing is a treat for those who know ho to hook and wrangle steelhead from the depths of the river and 6th street dam is a good place to do some Grand river steelhead fishing. Now all we need is some steelhead bobber downs and its a great day. As luck would have it I got 2 steelhead bobber downs on 2 back to back casts! Also as luck would have it We ran into the owner of Bloop beads and got to fish with him and he hooked us up with a few prototype beads to play with! We all fished together till Jason fell in the river and all the sudden the nice warm sunny day was more like a freezing death trap for Jason so we called it quits after a few fish in the net and some other fishy bobber downs.
