I have been tying a number of soft hackle flies over the past few weeks, most are traditional ("classic") patterns that have been around for many years. This week I wanted to do something that kept to a more traditional soft hackle pattern but with a modern twist. That is basically what a Hot Spot spider is. It is a spider type soft hackle with a bright spot in it to make it more attractive. In the case of this weeks fly it is a simple spider with some bright dubbing in the thorax. I comment on other types of "hot spots" that can also be done. This particular soft hackle works well in clearer water for trout as well as panfish. - Enjoy
