Eric Clapton Layla Acoustic Version Guitar Chords

Verse Chords: 'C#m', 'G#7', 'E', 'F#m', 'B', 'A'.

Eric Clapton Layla Unplugged Acoustic Guitar Solo Lesson
Both guitar solos on the "Unplugged" acoustic version of ‘Layla’ by Eric Clapton feature a slight shift in mood or tone between the Blues/Rock-sounding ‘D’ Pentatonic Minor scale and the Spanish-like ‘D’ Minor scale. The ‘D’ Pentatonic Minor scale (‘D’, ‘F’, ‘G’, ‘A’, ‘C’) is essentially the ‘D’ Minor scale with two less notes (‘Ba’ and ‘E’).

One of the songwriting techniques in ‘Layla’ is the use of modulation. Modulation is when sections of a song shift to another key. The Intro section is in the Key of ‘D’ Minor, while the Verse section shifts down a half- step to the Key of ‘C`’ Minor. Note how the Verse section uses all three primary chords (‘C`m’, ‘F`m’, & ‘G`m’) from the Key of ‘C`’ Minor, and all three chords from its relative major key of ‘E’ (‘E’, ‘A’, & ‘B’).

Eric Clapton Layla Acoustic Guitar Backing Track
This Eric Clapton "Layla" backing track features an acoustic guitar arrangement with rhythm and solo guitar. This acoustic guitar cover version of "Layla" by Eric Clapton is played in the Key of 'D' Minor - the same key used on the original recording by Derek & the Dominos on the album 'Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs'.

Eric Clapton "Layla" Songfacts
"Layla" is a song written by Eric Clapton and Jim Gordon and originally recorded by Derek and the Dominos from the 1970 studio album "Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs.

"Layla" was inspired by a love story that originated in 7th-century Arabia and later formed the basis of The Story of Layla and Majnun by the 12th-century Persian poet Nizami Ganjavi, a copy of which Ian Dallas had given to Clapton. The book moved Clapton profoundly, because it was the tale of a young man who fell hopelessly in love with a beautiful young girl, went crazy and so could not marry her. "Layla" was further inspired by Clapton's love for Pattie Boyd, the wife of his friend and fellow musician George Harrison of the Beatles. Clapton and Boyd eventually married.

"Layla" has since experienced great critical and popular acclaim. Two versions of "Layla" have achieved chart success, the first 'electric' version of "Layla" by Derek and the Dominoes in 1972 and the second acoustic 'performance by Eric Clapton 20 years later on MYV 'Unplugged'.

Clapton originally wrote "Layla" as a ballad, with lyrics describing his love for Boyd, but the song became a "rocker" when, according to Clapton, Allman composed the song's signature riff.

With an introductory minor pentatonic guitar lick that Allman supposedly based on an Albert King blues song, “As the Years Go Passing By."
A big part of what made “Layla” so memorable was the long piano coda that comprised the second half of the song. That section was credited to Jim Gordon.

Eric Clapton "Unplugged"
Unplugged is a 1992 album by Eric Clapton, recorded at Bray Studios, England in front of an audience for the MTV Unplugged television series. It includes a version "Tears in Heaven" and an acoustic version of "Layla".
