EFF leader Julius Malema's case on the singing of songs inciting hate speech and violence is in the Johannesburg High Court today, which sits as the Equality Court. The case stems from complaints that AfriForum lodged against him and his party in 2020. According to Ernst Roets, Head of Policy and Action at AfriForum, Malema's and the EFF's actions increase unnecessary racial tension in the country. The hate speech complaint focuses on the particular context in which the EFF sang "Kill the Boer, kill the farmer" and refers to several occasions where the party and its leaders sang the song, which has already been declared hate speech. One of these occasions was outside the Senekal Magistrate's Court during the bail hearing of the suspects charged with the murder of farm manager Brendin Horner.
