Self-Monitoring an Alarm.com Security System
In this video, Jarrett from Alarm Grid talks about how you can self-monitor an Alarm.com Security System. Self-monitoring means that the system is not connected with a central monitoring station. Instead, the user receives text and/or email alerts so that they can contact the authorities themselves.
When it comes to alarm monitoring, there are some users who do not want their systems connected with a central monitoring station. This might be because they don't want to spend the money, or because they don't feel that central monitoring station service benefits them. In any case, these users can instead elect to go with self-monitoring service. When a self-monitoring user has their system go into alarm, they will receive a text and/or email alert regarding the activity. It will then be up to them to contact the authorities that are needed. This could include police, fire, and/or medical service.
The reason why self-monitoring is possible for Alarm.com Security Systems is because the Alarm.com servers can send notifications to end users regarding any system activity. The way that this works is that the security system will be connected with Alarm.com. This is typically done through a cellular connection, though a user may have a dual-path connection with both cellular and IP service. When the system goes into alarm, it will forward the signal to the Alarm.com servers. From there, Alarm.com will forward the alert to the end user so that they may contact the authorities.
Please note that even if you have central station service on an Alarm.com System, you can still receive text and/or email alerts regarding any system activity. But self-monitoring specifically refers to users without central station service. Whether you go with central station service or self-monitoring service should depend upon your needs. Alarm Grid offers both types of monitoring plans.
