In this video, Joe talks about the security panels that can use the Telguard HomeControl Flex service. To use your system with HomeControl Flex, you will need a Telguard Communicator. This is the device that connects with your alarm system and allows it to access the Telguard Network for monitoring.

Most Alarm Grid monitored customers use Total Connect 2.0 or Alarm.com instead of Telguard HomeControl Flex. However, there are a few customers with Telguard Communicators who access the Telguard HomeControl Flex platform instead. This is a very similar service that provides very similar features. By accessing the HomeControl Flex service, you can arm and disarm your system, check current system status, and control Z-Wave smart home automation devices (FlexHub required). Please note that you will need an alarm monitoring plan that includes cellular communication and access to the interactive service platform to use HomeControl Flex.

A good Telguard Communicator is the Telguard TG-1 Express. This is a rather unique communicator. The module is used with security systems that would normally use a phone line to dial out. The TG-1 E connects with the tip and ring on the security panel and takes control of the panel's dialer. The panel still thinks that it is dialing out, but really the TG-1 is taking that phone signal and sending it across a cellular network. No real phone line is required.

Using cellular communication instead of telephone communication is a vastly superior option. Cellular connectivity is much more reliable and significantly faster. By using cellular, you will receive much more reliable and consistent monitoring service to keep your home or business safe. And the TG-1 E is nice because it lets you take an older panel that could only use a phone dialer and have it communicate across a cellular network.
