In this video, Joe explains how Z-Wave home automation can be performed on an Interlogix Simon XTi or Simon XTi-5 Alarm System. For these panels, an Alarm.com Cellular Communicator doubles as a fully functional Z-Wave controller. The only way to use Z-Wave with an XTi or XTi-5 is get connected with ADC.

An Alarm.com Cellular Radio is perhaps the single most important upgrade that can be made for an Interlogix Simon XTi or XTi-5 System. Not only is this module necessary for allowing the system to communicate with Alarm.com, it also makes alarm monitoring much more reliable overall. The only other option for alarm monitoring on a Simon XTi or XTi-5 is through a phone line.

Phone line connectivity is not recommended, as it offers relatively slow communication speeds, and the signals don't always go through successfully. Additionally, it's possible that an intruder will tamper with the phone line to prevent the system from functioning properly. Instead, upgrading to cellular is seen as a vastly superior option.

The thing about cellular is that it offers much faster communication speeds, and its signals almost always go through successfully. Cellular service is rarely ever down or unavailable. It is not affected by power outages, and it is virtually impossible to tamper with a cellular connection. For the XTi and XTi-5 all cellular signals will go through Alarm.com Servers.

In order to use cellular connectivity with a Simon XTi or XTi-5 System, an Alarm.com Cellular Communicator must be added to the system. This adds another advantage though, as this type of module will allow the system to support Z-Wave smart home automation devices. This is the only way to use Z-Wave devices with an Interlogix Simon XTi or XTi-5. All Z-Wave devices can be operated from the panel or through the Alarm.com Interactive Platform.
