7. Shocking Harbour
The harbour in Old Town Phuket is a sight to behold. Unless you’re from the region you’ll be amazed by all the boats, but not just boats but the fact there are double decker tugboats and a legion of fishing boats. These boats look like they were constructed 40 years ago, it’s like a harbour time capsule.

6. Fish Dead Zone
Thailand a tropical, lush country you would think would be home to incredible sealife. Sad this isn’t the case. The reason isn’t some underwater anomaly it's just a simple fact of overfishing with zero regulation. Fisherman in the area of been pulling every fish possible out of the water with big fishing boats for over 50 years, each year they have to go further and further out into the ocean to find fish. Today fisherman have to travel a few miles or kms just to find fish to catch.

5. Variety of Boats
As mentioned earlier there are double decker tugboats and old school fishing boats but there are numerous different boats for tourism and other activities on the water. Massive jet boats to get tourists to far off islands like the Phi Phi islands are all over the place. The more interesting boats are the old relic long boats, they have a motor attached with a huge pole, likely something you won’t see most other places of the world.

4. Amazing Scenery
The views are amazing around the Island of Phuket, not just the lush forest and blue waters, the limestone cliffs to the north can be seen from a far distance away. Theses huge rock columns cascade across the land and into the water. The most interesting one are the pillars standing in the middle of the ocean, like they don’t belong there.

3. Food and Stores
The food and shopping is a little ridiculous off the coast of Phuket. Anything from barbequed meats to fresh thai fruit. Most of the shops on the islands sells things people need at the moment like flip flops, shorts, shirts, bathing suits. While the food is good and you may enjoy the clothes available you’ll definitely pay a premium buying anything on these islands.

2. Beach Party
The beach parties around Phuket are ridiculous to say the least. Almost every single island around Phuket has beach chairs, food stalls and stores just waiting for tourists. At first glance it looks very much out of place, at 2nd glance nothing has changed. These islands are immensely busy with primarily Chinese, Australian, Russia and other Asian tourists sipping on coconuts struggling to use their Iphones with water proof cases on. If you’re ever in the area and notice one of these islands doesn’t have people on it, that is because there is a large amount of sea urchins at the shore making it too hard for boats to dock.

1. Asian Monitor Lizard
These terrifying creatures have the appearance of a Komodo Dragon, you know the world’s largest lizard that can kill a water buffalo with its venom, but aren’t quite as scary. While they look dangerous they rarely bite humans and don’t possess that nasty venom the Komodo Dragon has. The ones that live on this island are here soleing to rummage through garbage left from the Thai beach party that is going on everyday. I wouldn’t approach one but you shouldn’t be too scared of them.
