First Coding Stream & Testing for Kernel 41 and WHEA Logger Event ID 18

December 16, 2021, First Stream of the Day!

Today I decided to start streaming when I code on Twitch. I figured if I am going to be playing around with some coding then I might as well stream and if others are interested in learning along with me then they can join me, and if anyone wanted to give me advice then their advice would be welcomed.

For this stream, it was my First coding stream but I also just spent the last few days or so before this and my last Halo Campaign stream experiencing some weird crashes and restarts so after some diagnosing I was finally able to start preventing the crashes and stream again so this stream was also a test to see if my PC would crash on me again. *Spoiler* It did. lol

Recently, my AMD rig has been experiencing non-stop crashes. No Blue Screen of Death (BSOD's), Zero Warnings just Instantaneous restarts.

These restarts would come out of the blue. Could be gaming, alt-tabbing between gaming and other things, browsing the web, anything, and then the screens go black and the PC is restarting like someone had hit the restart button.

Sometimes, these restarts would be once a month to once a week, or even random throughout the day. However, it got so bad that it just kept on restarting.

After doing some digging there were Two Errors:
1. Critical Error: Kernel 41
2. WHEA Logger Event ID 18

Now, I don't go over the diagnosing, or solutions in these videos but I will explain it here:

1. Replaced PSU

2. Checked Ram using Windows Memory Diagnostic & Memtest86 and my RAM passed all tests so the Ram was good. Re-seated RAM just in case.

3. Replaced my storage device after a Read Failure Error was discovered. Storage Device Scan using command line chkdsk C: /f /r /x and these mean:
chkdsk [Path] [/f] [/r] [/x]

Path - The drive you're scanning.
/F - Fixes Errors on the Disk.
/R - Locates bad sectors and recovers readable information.
/X - Forces the volume to dismount first, if needed and all open handles to the drive are invalidated.

4. Replaced my AMD Radeon 6900XT Red Devil Ultimate with an AMD Radeon 6900XT Red Devil (Non-Ultimate) since I had a warranty on it through Microcenter. (Doing this actually allowed me to start gaming and streaming again before I crashed during this video.)

5. Finally, sadly, lastly, replaced my AMD Ryzen 9 5950X CPU. (After this stream crashed)

After doing all of this I was finally able to be rid of Critical Error Kernel 41 & WHEA Logger Event ID 18 so *knock on wood* the problem has not persisted.

I hope anyone who has an AMD CPU paired with either an AMD or Nvidia GPU who is experiencing these issues will be able to find this video and read this lengthy description helpful on solving Kernel 41 and WHEA 18 errors.
