Fort Bowie Part 01
Arizona had many old forts and encampments dating back to the civil and Indian wars. Most of these camps and/or their remains are on private property, Fort Bowie being one of the exceptions.
This wasn't a planned trip, we did the fort, but did not get to the cemetery, stage station etc; we will do a future video about those.
In 1886, after the Apache were subdued, the fort was used as a travelers' stop until it was abandoned in 1894. In 1911 the property was sold at auction and in 1964 it was turned into a National Historic site.
This is part 01 of a two part series. A third part will be done later to get the spots we missed in these two.
Here is a link to some information about Fort Bowie and some of it's history.

Total Wreck Ghost Town Part 02
The Total Wreck mining operation belonged to the Empire Ranch. It has a strong connection with characters from Tombstone. The mine allowed for the expansion of the Empire ranch. The ranch owned several other ranches in Arizona, including the Rail X, Empirita and others.
I often use the word "tailings" interchangeably with "overburden"; you will hear this in my videos. These sites are old and it is often difficult to tell one from the other and I choose to be lazy in my usage and just use "tailings". If you were wondering: I do know the difference.
In Part 01 we 4x4 in, hike and explore the stamp mill and some of the area. In Part 02 we explore the remains of the town site. In a future Part 03, we will try to locate some graves, the pump site and the remains of the old water tanks on the hill.

Cochise County Mountain Hike (SOTA) Volume 04
This is a series of hiking videos where I also include some amateur radio.
If you like hiking up mountains and desert scenery, these should be some fun videos for you.
If you like amateur radio, portable and remote activating, summits on the air, parks on the air etc, these videos have that too.
If you like one but not the other, I put chapters in so you can skip the parts you don’t care about.
About this video:
This hike is to a summit that is off the "old Bisbee highway". This road is an abandoned part of the road that was replaced by State Route 80.
I hike from the parking area about a mile in, climb the summit, set up the radio and then climb down and head back to the car.

Ghosts of the Old West Railroads. Tombstone and beyond...what's left?
During the mining boom was going, this area had railroad going all over. From Benson to Contention City, Fairbank, Charleston, Emery City, Grand Central, Naco, Patagonia, Nogales etc.
When everything went bust, most of those old rails, over the course of time, were removed. One of the last ones to go was the line that went from Benson to Charleston area; it was used as a "tourist" train. At some point in the early 2000s, the train stopped running and the rail was all pulled up and removed.
The video shows what happened to the railroad ties from that line.

Pichacho Peak Hike Part 02
Picacho Peak is a (very) popular hiking/camping spot in southern Arizona. It is a difficult hike and if you are not in shape, and maybe if you are, it might be a challenge.
If you're like me and prefer not to be near a lot of people and want to enjoy nature in the quiet, this type of hiking spot might not be for you (notice the grumpiness in the video). Also, this hike has some very challenging areas, so if you have some type of health condition or you don't like hikes, same advice.
It was $7 to get in and the place was packed. It might not be as busy during the week. "If" we ever decide to do this again (the wife is already to go back), we will go during the week and hopefully it's not as busy.
In part 02, we do the climb down.

Rescued Owl From Barb Wire Fence #shorts
This is a juvenile great horned owl. He flew at high speed into a barb wire fence and actually wrapped himself around the strand. He was removed from the fence and taken to an animal rehabilitation center where he is as of the uploading of this video. He had a severely broken wing which has taken quite awhile to mend.
Before anyone makes any posts I need to make a few points:
1. It is a violation of federal law to possess these animals, their feathers or any of their parts. Understand that...only certain individuals and groups are allowed to possess these items; if you're not sure if you're allowed...you're probably not.
2. If you find these or any other animals injured, you need to call the local authorities, like game and fish, they will give you instructions on what to do.
3. This particular owl was pretty tired out when he was removed, so he was docile and not really looking for a fight. If you don't know much about owls, they are particularly ornery and they will ruin your day if they wish to. Approach them with extreme care and caution, preferably AFTER you contact the authorities.
4. If you find them wrapped around fence or any other item, the best way to remove them is to cut the fence and take that piece of fence to the rehabilitation center with the bird. Trying to unwind them from the fence can often make the injury worse and it could possibly turn the ire of the owl on you.
At some point I will post some video of this owl at the rehabilitation center and when he is released (they are supposed to contact us) I will post that video as well.
