Wireless Hummingbird Feeder! See them up close!
Hey friends and family,
check out this really cool hummingbird feeder that has a built-in wireless camera in it. A company called Soliom reached out to me and asked me if I wanted to check out this product. I love feeding hummingbirds and I really liked the idea of this so I thought why not.
Arrived quickly
I didn't think much else about it and a few days later it arrived. I immediately was impressed with how well the item was packaged, it sort of reminded me of the way an iPhone is packaged.
Very well made
The hummingbird feeder itself was very well made and you can tell attention to detail was made. The majority of it is made of thick plastic except for the hanger, which is stainless steel.
There is a moat on the top that you can fill with water to keep ants from reaching the feeder.
It comes with three sets of flowers where the feeders are, so you can switch them to different colors if you wish.
Ease of cleaning
It comes all apart so you can reach every nook and cranny when you clean it and oh yeah, it even comes with two separate brushes to clean it with. I mean they thought of everything.
Wireless transmission of videos and pictures
The camera that is built in can come out so you can charge it. There is an app that comes with it and the videos are sent to the cloud so you can view them from the comfort of your home.
How did it work?
I quickly cleaned it and made some nectar (click here for the recipe I use: https://youtu.be/eLDz0wYtcFk?si=DzvvMPKD1byQ_l7vso I could put it out and give it a try. After letting the nectar cool, I filled up the feeder and placed it outside. Within 20 minutes, I had my first hummingbird. I got 100's of videos in the week that I had it up and I never had to charge the camera.
Check out the video so you can see what it looks like and the cool videos I got.
I had an idea also that this could also work great as a hidden security camera on a front porch, or hang it in the yard and point it towards your house. The camera has a motion detector that picks up movement as seen in the video where I am cutting grass.
So what do you think? Would you use this yourself? Do you think it is cool? Leave us a comment below and if you want one, click this link here: https://amzn.to/3PxfxWI

The best fuel can that is non-EPA regulated.
I love these jugs so much and they are very durable. They are made of thick plastic and they dump fuel out fast. With these, you do not have to worry about the contraptions on the top of the gas can as you do with the EPA-regulated gas cans. I also bought a hose bender to keep the hose bent in a curved position to make getting the hose in the mouth of the fuel tank better and easier.

How to Change the Air Filter on the 18-22 Jeep Wrangler JL
Click to buy the Premium Guard Highflow Filter for the 2018-2022 Jeep Wrangler https://amzn.to/3OxOiMq
Click this link for the Premium Guard Store to find the air filter for your vehicle https://amzn.to/47cTexR
They also sell Cabin Air Filters, oil filters, house air filters, and gloves.
Today I am showing you how to change the air filter in a 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL. This same procedure will work for the 2018-2022 JL year models and I believe it works for the 2.0L 4-cylinder engine as well as the 3.6L V6 Engine. The one I am showing you today is on a 2.0L 4-cly turbo engine. This will also work on a 2020 or newer Jeep Gladiator.
Changing out the air filter needs to be done every 30,000 miles or sooner if you drive in very dusty environments. The air filter not only protects your vehicle from damage but also changing it out regularly will help with fuel mileage. It is always good to inspect it every time you change the vehicle's oil.
This video is to show the DIYer or anyone who has never changed out a air filter on a Jeep Wrangler JL. The process of changing out the air filter is very simple and most people can complete this task. There is no need in paying the oil changing place or dealership $60 to $100 dollars to change your air filter. This is why I made this video, to help those out who may have never done this before. Remember, you can do it!
I am using a Premium Guard High Flow Air Filter which is similar to a K&N Air Filter. This filter can be washed, reoiled, and reused. If you just want to learn how to swap out your regular air OEM filter, the process is the same and you can find the regular air filter by the link up above. The Premium Guard regular OEM Air Filter is around $19.95.
I have ordered this brand, along with EcoGuard for many years now and have good luck with the em. They are normally cheaper than you can buy at the auto parts store and you can get them in a couple of days from Amazon.

Elderberry Grows Wild Everywhere in the South!
Wild Elderberry in bloom.
Save money on Elderberry plants! There is no need in buying Expensive Elderberry plants, they literally grow everywhere wild if you live in the South.
If you look for these flowers between May and June, you will see the side of the road lined with them.
They are almost too easy to grow and root from a cutting. Anyone can do it if you're wanting them on your property.
Take a cutting, put it in a wet paper towel or a keep the stem moist in a bottle of water. Stick it in some moist potting soil when you get home.
All of these you see are growing wild on my property but I see them everywhere I go this time of the year.
This post is meant to help anyone that wants to find them. Not a knock on you if you bought a variety to grow. Improved varieties can be beneficial in many ways such as bigger blooms or many other traits.

Agri Supply is the Walmart of the Farming World!
We recently had to visit the Agri Supply store in Monroe, NC to get a new PTO shaft for our tractor. I have been by this store a few times but have never been into it. Just pulling into the parking lot I was blown away by how big it was. This is the Walmart of the farming world. The Buc-ees of the tractors supply stores. I am serious!
Walking in I was blown away by all the items the store had. It is seriously the size of a Walmart but with tools, lawn mower parts, outdoor cooking-related items, boots, work clothes, tractor implements, and more.
I was able to get the PTO shaft and some quick attach adapters that I needed, but not before spending a good hour in there looking around.
Have you been to AgriSupply before?

Is this the World’s Largest Eastern Red Cedar?
I know this isn’t the largest Eastern Red Cedar but this one is huge!
This tree is approximately 40 ft not counting the root ball.
This tree was dead when we bought this property in 2014. I finally got it down and wanted to save it.
The plan is to use the wood for my compost bin that I was talking about making in this video here: Around the House | April 25th, 2023

Food Waste Into Compost!
This company turns food waste into beautiful compost. See the full video here:
We recently had the opportunity to tour the ReSoil composting facility in Elgin, SC. ReSoil has a unique setup in that they take in all this food waste and turn it into compost.
They are a level 3 composter that can take in all sorts of food waste from bones from chicken, to dog food waste from a manufacturing facility (corn, soybean, bonemeal) to BBQ sauce, and more.
While we were there we saw egg water delivered and a load of food waste from a local business cafeteria.
The local businesses that have on-site cafeterias pay to have their waste taken to this facility in order to be greener and eco-friendly. It is a win-win for the companies and the environment.
In turn, ReSoil is able to compost the materials and sell the byproduct which is compost in order for others to grow in.
We had a very cool visit and were able to talk with the Facility Manager, Matt Renwick, one on one in-depth for a while to learn how this all operates.
The facility was started many years ago by another group of entrepreneurs and conservationists that came up with the concept of collecting food waste from local individuals' homes and businesses. They worked to have bags that were developed that were compostable.
You can see those bags in this clip. They are made from plant-based material and are able to be added back to the compost.
The difference between compostable and biodegradable is that biodegradable just deteriorates over time while compostable is able to add something back to the compost such as nutrients.
Follow along with us as we dive deep into this dirty job of composting to make a sweet soil amendment and impact the environment in a big way.

Kings Mountain State Park Camping Trip Part 1
We finally had some downtime from planting and maintaining the yard and property to get away and do some camping. My family along with two other YouTube families that we are friends with went to Kings Mountain State Park which is in Blacksburg, SC right on the North Carolina and South Carolina State line. This is a big historical site as it was the turning point in the Revolutionary War for the Americans.

Did You See It? | 2nd Phase of Composting #nature #composting
This compost pile has been sitting for a few months. It is out of the heating-up phase. You can see worms, organisms, and biota. This is the 2nd phase of the compost pile, whereas the 1st phase the compost heats up and a high temperature, In this phase the compost is cool and is breaking down. You can tell that by seeing that the chunks of material is smaller than in the last video.
Some material breaks down fast, and some, such as wood chips, make take a few years. You will see that in the next phase, the curing phase.

Planting Trees We Got From "Plants For Everyone" | Up Potting Blueberry & Blackberry Bushes"
Last week we told you about a plant haul we purchased from a group called "Plants for Everyone" that is in Asheville, North Carolina. Last week we picked them up and brought them home. We soaked the trees in a 5 gallon bucket of water overnight and the next afternoon, we got to planting.
We are planting 4 Carya Hardy Pecan Trees, 1 Jiro Persimmon, and 1 Pink Lady Apple Trees. The pecan are going next to our Dunstan Chestnut trees and the Persimmon and Pink Lady will go in our fruit orchard.
Along with this, we got some muscadine vines and some Blueberry bushes from "Plants for Everyone" sale as well. All of these are bareroot so it is important to get them in the ground or in a container as soon as possible for their survival.
We mix up a mixture of peat moss and potting soil for the blue berry bushes making sure to soak the peat moss ahead of time. Then we use straight potting soil for the muscadine bushes. We also pot up the bare root trees that are going to my cousin for him to plant.
Come along and join us on this journey of building out our small hobby farm. The ride is going to be fun.

Ouachita: Which A Taw or Watch Uh Taw? Answering Dean Family Acres' Challenge
In this video, we're answering the challenge from Dean Family Acres to settle the debate on the correct pronunciation of "Ouachita". We'll be discussing the history of the name. While we are at it, the correct pronunciation is actually "Waa-Shee-Tuh" or "Wash-uh-taw" which we actually butcher in the video haha.
Additionally, we'll be sharing how we went in together with other members of Homesteaders of The Southeast Facebook Group to form a "group buy" on Blackberries in order to get them at a discounted rate. The blackberries were bought from Pense Nursery in Arkansas. I have a link to their site here: https://penseberryfarm.com/collections/blackberry-plant-varieties
If you're a fan of the Ouachita Blackberry or simply interested in linguistics, this video is for you! Whether you're a seasoned gardener or new to fruit cultivation, this video will share our experiences with buying blackberries in bulk with a large group.

When To Spray Dormant Oil on Fruit Trees and Why
Today I am showing you the reason why I am spraying dormant oil on my fruit trees.
After last year, I realized that I couldn't just leave my fruit trees to be and be able to harvest fruit from them. One tree, in particular, was severely damaged by insects and ruined all of my fruit. Also, while pruning this year, I noticed some insect eggs on one apple tree.
This year I am trying to be more proactive in my approach so I am trying to spray my trees to protect them as much as I can while avoiding harsh chemicals.
I try to be as natural as I can, I know some don't believe in anything added in but I believe in some inputs that are needed. I will be spraying this year with dormant oil and possibly a fungicide in a few weeks. We will continue to build out our fruit tree guilds and continue to add companion plants to help deter what bugs and fungus we can. We will also add in spraying compost tea as well.
The beneficial bacteria in compost tea are supposed to benefit the trees as well as kill some funges also.
As we have stated many times, this is all trial and error for us as this is our first fruit orchard. It is all a learning process and we are sharing our experiences with you so you can learn too.
