I know this isn't going to fix the room completely, although it doesn't sound bad to begin with, but i plan on doing more decorative panels in the living room area. As much as the wife will let me get away with. This isn't a studio or a dedicated home movie theater. It's our every day, daily driven livingroom. It has 15' high ceilings at the top and 10' at the lowest point. The room is an open floor plan (as you can see in the video), so I can only do what I can do. As stated, it already sounds incredible so it's no big deal regardless. I have lots of idea's. This seems to already be making a difference. Once I get more done I will run Dirac Live again and see what sort of changes were made. For now, this is just a start. It has been a while since I made a gain/crossover setting video and this 5 channel Gately Audio G5-1700D was perfect for the job. When watching this video, keep in mind that these speakers are all sitting on a table, open air and cancelling themselves out (each speaker). So It for sure is not going to sound as good like this as it would if you had them in your vehicle with the front/rear cones separated from each other. Also, gains should be set with everything completely flat which they are in this video. Once that is done, you can move on to any EQ'ing that needs to be done to actually fix any issues. You will find that once your gain is set properly and the crossovers are calibrated precisely with each other, you won't need to do nearly as much EQ'ing. A little nudge here and there and that is about it. Same for bass/treble controls on the head unit. Remember all knobs to the right? Well that is a sign your gains are not set correctly. Once they are, you may find yourself barely touching those at all! Anyway, thanks for watching the video if you did. I had fun making it! But if speed matters, and it might if your system is big enough, the VM-1 has never lost. There are several reasons that speed is important. You could have a bad alternator even without a big system and still have issues. The reason i bring up the bad alternator thing is that i have seen it multiple times from myself to several people. Amps shutting down and they don't know why. Turns out that quick voltage peak that doesn't seem important to know about can be enough to shut your system down if anything in it don't like 18v (for example). Very annoying. The problem quickly diagnosed with a VM-1 many times. Most amps don't like being down in the 10v range either and you might not know you are dipping that deep in the heat of a crazy demo. These 8's are beefy! They were packed loosely and had foam all over them. One was upside down in it's box. So i took them out for testing. Seems like they are still working well! I asked my wife if she would find me some and for like $14 bucks i had some the very next day. With the IMSG and an amp, i should be able to do this. As you can see in the video, the best way is to find the resonant frequency of the glass. Then, you can drop some power on it at THAT frequency. Try it! I challenge you, let's see it! I figured i would play with it a little bit and show it to you guys. As busy as the shop has been it feels good to take a few minutes to slap the hell out of a subwoofer. I pushed this thing to it's limit's and it wouldn't break. I didn't try to break it but most subs would not have survived what i was doing to this little thing. It didn't even get warm at all!
