A snow fight, fishing mussels, a sandy bite, colourful churches, rubber boots, a salmon farm and adorable hosts: this week we visit the unique island of Chiloe. Leaving the altiplano, a review of our solar system, meeting @Thebluelandy , trying the best Argentinians wines and food and the highest mountain in South America. Last we completed the probably what will be our last drive on the Altiplano. We are continuing our way south away from the magnificent but harsh environments of the northern part of Argentina. This week we need a bit of time off and we find it in the lower elevations of the western valleys of Argentina along the famous Carretera 40 (route 40). This week we seek good weather, good friends, good wine and good food. It is the occasion for us to discover Argentina in a different way and we love it. Last week we arrived to the Salar de Uyuni, the biggest salt flats in the world. incredible 10.000 square km of empty whiteness. an exceptional journey. This week we embark got a real challenge on one of the most famous stretch along the panamerican highway, the laguna route. This trail rallies the South of Bolivia to the North of Chile over 500km. On the Altiplano we are never under 4000m and there is no water or gaz station available. It is known for its brutal temperatures and insane winds. Well at least we do not do that alone! We are going with an adventurous group of travelers. 2 troopies and a DUCATO. Don’t judge the van it will impress you! The 24th flag on our car, the highest mountain (volcano) of Bolivia (Sajama), a village orchestra, lots of lama and some washboards… Last week we completed the hardest physical challenge of our lives: summiting Huayna Potosi (6088m). This week we head direction one of the most famous landmark of Bolivia: the Uyuni Salt flats, Salar de Uyuni! We have been thinking of this place since even before setting foot on the Americas. A summit above 6000m (almot 20.000 feet), climbing ice walls, heavy bags and learning how to put on crampons: this week it is the hardest physical challenge of our lives. Last week we entered Bolivia. Immediately we went into the Cordillera Real to practice hiking at high elevation. There was a reason to that. We had to get acclimatised for our next challenge. Indeed this week we attempt to climb Huayna Potosi. A summit above 6000m, located right next to the capital city of Bolivia: La Paz. Everyone its physical ability. In our case, although the hike itself does not present a major difficulty, we cannot anticipate how the elevation will play on our capacity to make it to the summit, nor do we know if we are going to master the crampons and ice axe necessary for the climb. Desert road, colourful laguna, getting lost, learning Quechua, flying above the Nazca lines, mountain roads, and Cusco! Last week we finally completed the upgrades on our Land Rover Defender: project Albatross 2.0. That was a long work but totally worth it. In this episode we are finally able to leave the city and take the route to adventure again. This time we change from the mountains and head to the coastal desert of Peru. And what a surprise, we thought it would just be a road like any other and we discovered a gorgeous and unique tracks. What a gift for our return on the road. But this was not all. The most amazing glaciers lake, hikes above 4000m, militaries on the trail and a gazillion switchbacks... This is the Cordillera Blanca of Peru (the white mountain range). This week we are over excited to bring you with us into one of the most impressive region we have seen so far on this world tour. Last week we got a little bite of it, this week we eat the entire cake! There is nothing that can really prepare one to the cordillera blanca. Imagine the nicest lake of the Canadian Rockies, with no one around... Well. make the lake bigger, brighter, the glaciers around multiply them by 10, and this is the cordillera blanca. And there is so a good reason it felt so unique. It is because... it is! It is the largest ice cap mountain range in the tropics. There are simply no glacier region that big between the tropic lines. The reality of the Panamerican highway, the sketchiest bridge we ever have to face, a 2 dollars meal, 37+ tunnels, 30 years old birthday and arriving in our favourite region of this world tour journey so far! Last week was our last in Colombia. A country we loved and spent 6 weeks in. This week we enter into country 22 of this expedition, and "damn" we already are amazed about it. From the first days already it provided us with some of the greatest landscapes and experiences of this trip. We can feel it, Ecuador is going to be a gem. You can discover with us this unique ecosystem that is the Paramo, the charming cobblestone trails and the kindness of people alongside the road. We could not thank this lady and her horse enough for taking the time to chat with us on the road. We will keep them in our heart. Travelling to an island off the coast of Colombia, meeting with an amazing crew of biologists, collect fragments of coral under water, scuba dive to go plant the corals in the reef. This week we are out of our comfort zone. We are now on our last week in Colombia and let us tell you it was an incredible country. But we are not quite done with it and this last adventure is really an amazing way to conclude this journey. We are going to learn how to plant coral! We leave Albatross for the week and head to Isla Fuerte, an island off the coast of Colombia. Coral reefs are slowly disappearing all around the world due to rising water temperature and intensive fishing between other causes. And Isla Fuerte where we travel this week is no exception. Thankfully some people try to take action and reverse this tragic phenomenon. This week we accompany them and learn how to plant coral. A meet-up in Bogota, a new bag for the Albatross, the highest palm trees in the world and a lot of FRIENDS: old friends, new friends, Colombian friends, international friends. Last week we travelled through the doors of the Andes in Colombia. High elevations and dramatic landscapes around: a dream. This week we went down in elevation, we have a lot of people we want to meet in and around the big cities of Colombia. Since we started the journey we got virtually in contact with a log of Colombians over landers and it was finally the opportunity for us to meet them. We also meet again with long-time friends we travelled with in Baja California: the one and only @gdayjambo ! It is such a great feeling to be able to meet again and we explore one of the most unique region of Colombia home to an exceptional type of tree... The tallest palm trees in the world! Lost Mountain trails, the nicer people of Colombia, the sacred snow of El Cocuy and endless valleys and mountain pass: this week we drive all the way up to 4000 meters. Last week we completed our loop to the north of the country in the desertic costal region of La Guajira. This week we leave the heat of the coast and seek fresher climate in the mountains. Gradually we climb through the windy trails of Colombia in search for new landscapes and new culture. We find amazing people in remote corners of the mountains all the way to the door of the Andes. That is it: we know we are finally in South America now. There is a new vibe to it we can feel it. In April 2022 we started our expedition to reach all 7 continents in 3 years. We did a loop through Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland before shipping Albatross our Defender to Canada and driving up to Alaska. That alone was a crazy adventure! We then started to drive our way down the Panamerican, going through the USA, Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama where the road ends because of the Darien gap! A 100km forest with no road connecting North to South America. So we shipped Albo in a container to Colombia and started our trip again there, now direction Ushuaia in Argentina and the goal is to reach Antarctica as well before shipping Albo to Australia, Asia and Africa. Lost trails, roadblocks, salt flats recovery, in the one of the most remote area of Colombia. For our first adventure in Colombia we decide to go to the northernmost point of the South American continent. We do not know anything of the country and we embark on a 700km journey to the Guajira department of Colombia. The way is long and bumpy but was a wonderful experience. We learn to navigate the dozens of desert trails, we learn to overcome the Albatross getting stuck and we learn to negotiate our way through the roadblocks. We meet extraordinary people on the way and la Guajira will remain one of the most unique place we discovered. This was the most wonderful way to start our journey through Colombia and it gave us so much motivation to discover more of the country. Storms, sharks, fresh coconuts and islands straight from paradise, ready to complete 270 miles through the Caribbean sea? Last week we put our car into a container to ship it from Panama to Columbia. Because of the Darien gap it is the only way for us to complete the panamerican and reach the third continent of our world tour. That done, our next step is to find a way to go across the Darien ourselves. And we decided to … sail! Indeed, we will not be flying above the Darien but we will sail across the Caribbean to reach Cartagena in Colombia. On the way we discover the San Blas islands, the incredible reefs and islands in the archipelago and make new friends. Will we arrive in time? The road ends, the Darien Gap, shipping a vehicle on container from Panama to Colombia and much more! Last week we travelled through Panama and arrived in Panama City. In this episode we run around the city to prepare for the shipment of our Land Rover Defender from Panama to Colombia. We are stressed and excited at the same time. So much to think about and it is also our first container shipping of this trip. Luckily we are supported by Alejandro from Overland Embassy who makes our work so much easier. It is a great experience and we learnt immensely through the process. If the car is being shipped to avoid the Darien we also reveal to you how we are going to pass the Darien!
