Oak Hill Church of Christ 6-9-24 Message: "Who Do You Say That He Is?"
Oak Hill Church of Christ preaching minister, Randy Sterling, delivers a message on the importance of discovering the truth about Jesus and remaining firm in our beliefs.
Even those who are not Christian may, from time to time, regard Jesus as a "good man" or perhaps a "kind soul" or a "wise teacher" whose words hold a tender truth that can't be denied.
However, an astute observer of Jesus' teachings and his words will reveal that Jesus himself made statements that leave no room for bet-hedging when it comes to his nature. Either Jesus is the Son of God, or else he is not only crazy, but contemptible; as his teachings would lead everyone who followed them away from the old law.
Some people go on long, exotic holidays to foreign lands in search of gurus to reveal a greater truth so that they may 'find themselves' and thus transcend their limited nature. There's something about the human spirit that recognizes a lack of direction and a need for a path. The question is, to whom shall you look for guidance on that path?
Will you travel afar to a foreign land, seeking the wise man at the top of a mountain? Will you go to a bookseller in search of some successful man's 'self help' guide? Or, will you open the Bible and hear the word of God through Jesus, accepting him as your savior and guide?
God has given you the free will to choose, but, choose you must.

Oak Hill Church of Christ 6-2-24 Message: "Be A Person of Integrity"
Oak Hill Church of Christ preaching minister, Randy Sterling, delivers a message on remembering that what God thinks is virtue is the only morality that matters.
Daniel was stuck in a difficult position. The King, who had been remarkably supportive of him in the past had decreed, )as a result of political stumping on the part of his advisors) that only the god worshiped by the state was fit to be prayed to. Daniel's God was not to be revered and reverence for God was outlawed under penalty of death by lion.
It would've been easy for Daniel to say within himself "I'll continue to believe in God but I'll just bow before this statue so I can keep my job and not get in trouble." That sounds like a rational thing to say. Maybe "I know the heathen god is just a statue, so if I bow before it, it doesn't matter. God knows I believe in him, so that's fine."
But, that wasn't what Daniel decided to do. Daniel fervently (as did his three friends) remained an open believer in God and would not bow before any foreign god. Daniel remained steadfast in his decision even when it meant he was going to be tossed into the den of lions. The king, it seems, was regretful of the whole situation, realizing he had been played politically by his advisors and now the very valuable counselor, Daniel, was going to suffer the consequences.
As you remember the story of Daniel, consider: What things are you being asked to bow before today? Have you found it harder in your life to be open in your faith for fear of ridicule? Do you know anyone who lost their job or their social circle because of their honest faith?
At the end of the story, of course, Daniel is saved. God protected him because of his faith. Daniel didn't surrender; he didn't give in to the pressures of society, nor of the politicians forcing him to denounce God. Consider the faith of Daniel and strengthen your own faith in God that it might be strong enough to resist the fearsome threats of the world you live in.

Oak Hill Church of Christ 5-26-24 Message: "Set Your Sights On Heaven"
Oak Hill Church of Christ preaching minister, Randy Sterling, delivers a message on the importance of looking toward the eternity we are promised through Christ.
Heaven is a popular topic. You will find many books about Angels and the way Heaven looks. You might even hear a story or two about people who said they saw God in a near death experience.
However, that Heaven is roped off into the world of fantasy as much as anything. It often doesn't draw from the Bible and the minute detail regarding the properties of each being bears more similarity to Tolkien or Jordan than it does to Moses or Luke.
For the Christian, Heaven is a real place, not a fantasy realm. Heaven is described to us in the Bible and revealed as the destination of those who choose to dwell eternally with God through Christ.
Just as the fantasy can distract us from the real Heaven, so, too, can this life also distract us. We find ourselves looking in the wrong direction, focusing on the wrong things. Sometimes, we even talk about spending enough money to be able to create Heaven in this world.
But, Heaven is a place not built with hands and not understood with the human mind. It is the dwelling place of God and the immortal destiny of the Christian.
Like the Prodigal Son who turned away from his fantasy paradise and toward the home of his father, so, too, we Christians should turn ourselves to the everlasting and eternal home of our Father, and make that place our goal.

Oak Hill Chruch of Christ 5-19-24 Message: "If I Were The Devil"
Oak Hill Church of Christ preaching minister, Randy Sterling, delivers a message on the real presence of evil in the world and the desire for Satan, chief of all evil, to corrupt the hearts of God's children, not in grand and obvious ways, but in small ones.
If the Devil truly was red-hued with large horns, cloven hooves, a spiral tail, and pitchfork, it would be easy to spot his presence and thus, reject his ministrations toward us.
If the Devil spoke only vile things in a deep, distorted voice, we would know that the words came from him, and we would reject them.
The Bible shows, however, that the Devil is actually quite shrewd and unobtrusive. The Devil isn't in the business of corrupting through horror. Rather, the Devil begins to convince by appearing to give us what we want in the most attractive package possible.
The Devil uses nice words, peaceful words, generous words. The Devil attempts to appear as a thoughtful soul who only wants good things for us, just as he did in the Garden to Eve. Satan tempted Eve with the sinful desire to become equal to God.
The Devil also used nice words to Jesus. He quoted scripture and supported Jesus' ministry as the Messiah, only, he offered a quicker route. "Just worship me, and I'll help you reach all your goals."
Of course, whenever the Devil acts, underneath his nice words and helpful demeanor is sin. The Devil seeks to drive a wedge between God and His children. "What God wants for you and the way he wants you to achieve it is unfair," says the Devil.
The Devil's corrupting influence is present everywhere you see wickedness being done while using nice words as a smokescreen. It's present every place you hear someone who purports to be a Christian, but argues that there are certain parts of the Bible that should be ignored because they're just too old.
As Christians, we must learn to follow Jesus' example of noticing the Devil's influence and rejecting him, not with our own power, but through God and His righteousness. Then, the Devil will flee, for he knows he can never defeat God.

Oak Hill Church of Christ 5-12-24 Message: "It's Not Me"
Oak Hill Church of Christ Elder, Curtis Lively, delivers a message on the ways in which God touches each of our lives with the things we need in order to walk the path He gives us.
There are many movies and books written about Heaven, and some of them are from people who claim to have had 'near-death experiences' that brought them to a deeper and more full understanding of the life beyond this one.
The Bible shares with us the story of Paul in the New Testament who writes about experiences which were indescribable as Jesus revealed to him a deeper and greater truth about the promise of God which he could not even fully put into words.
For some people, like Paul, a 'near-death experience' was what was needed in order to get them focused on God and living for Him. It put things into perspective and allowed them to see the world in a different way. Perhaps, to cherish this life more, and to have a strong and defined purpose.
For others, God has revealed different things to help guide them on the path God has provided to them. Whatever God has revealed to you, use it as an opportunity to reignite your faith and renew your desire to run the race God has given to you.
If you're finding yourself too far removed from the glory days of your fiery faith, obey Christ's command in Revelation and return to your first love. Rediscover that energy and renew your dedication to God today.
