Ohayo Sumo

Saturday we were smol in body but mighty in spirit as the club gathered for our post holiday keiko. Many bellies were full of holiday feasting, but the desire for Sumo burned bright in our hearts. We celebrated members Joshua and Sean's second year with the club after keiko was over. Looking forward to the first session of December , only a week away!!

Saturday was a beautiful fall day and a perfect day for Sumo.Our club was very fortunate to be joined by Robert Fuimaono as he prepares for the World Combat Games. Robert brought a wealth of knowledge and we are truly grateful for his visit.The club also welcomed newcomers Brandon and Dylan. Brandonhas experience with Sumo and trained with the 901 Sumo clubin Tennessee. Dylan experienced Sumo for the first time and we hope to see him again in the future. Long time club memberJohn received his shikona from head coach Darius, and newmember Matt cooked up some homemade Chanko for everyone. Today the club kicked off the holiday weekend with SUMO!! We welcomed back Matt, Cory and T.J. to practice. All three showed incredible heart and continue to grow in their sumo. The club is also super grateful for Hannah stepping up in a big way to help photograph today's practice. Without her we couldn't look at ourselves on social media, and everyone knows that's super important (^_^). Keiko was once again very spirited as we gear up for the Beer City Sumo tournament at the end of this month. The club had a spirited practice today, with many exciting matches and a few bumps and bruises to show for it. We were rejoined by Tim, who continues to show improvement and zeal for Sumo. We were also joined by Matt for his first ever keiko. Matt showed a lot of promise in his first ever practice and we look forward to seeing him again. Yesterday club members traveled nearby to visit the outdoor Dohyo of coach Jacob, one of the founders of the Ohayo Sumo Association. The heat and humidity didn't keep us from putting in work, preparing for meeting our friends in Michigan at the Beer City Sumo Open. We hope you enjoy watching.

Today the club welcomed Tim, a long time Instagram follower and lover of Sumo to his first ever keiko. Tim showed a lot of heart and grit for his first practice and we hope to see him again soon. Saturday the club welcomed T.J to his first keiko. T.J has a background in wrestling and was excited to attend his first practice. Judging by his energy in Suriashi and matches, we hope he continues practicing Sumo. Every practice the club not only grows in size but in commitment by each member to doing their best Sumo. The members push and encourage each other to give their all. We're looking forward to our next Keiko, we hope you join us.

Getting ready to meet our Sumo brothers and sisters in the Dohyo at the 2023 #RiverfrontSumoOpen , hosted by the Grand Rapids Sumo club. We had a fun practice this weekend. The gang played around with wrestling without a belt in order to work on other techniques , and we welcomed Quinn, a new member. We hope he had a fun time and that he comes back to practice with us again. At the end we celebrated the 2nd year anniversary of the club. It's hard to believe we started with two members and have grown so much. A hard practice completed on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in Ohio. Today we were joined by River, a spry young lad who was ready to try Sumo. He did great in his first practice and we hope to see more of him in the future. The gang put on a good practice with many close matches. The Ohayo Sumo club went to their first national Sumo competition and performed very well. Most of our club members finished in the top 10 of their division and coach Benjamin was able to secure the bronze in the middleweight division. It was a fun event and we hope to attend next year.
