RGV Criminal Migrants and Gang Members Arrests Week-In-Review Release Date Fri, 07/22/2022 - 12:00 EDINBURG, Texas – Rio Grande Valley Sector (RGV)Border Patrol agents arrested two sex offenders, a criminal, and seventeen gang membersthis week. McAllen Border Patrol Station (MCS) agentsapprehended seven migrants near Havana. One of the subjects later identified asJuan Castillo-Morales, a Mexican national,was previously sentenced to two years confinement for indecency sexual battery of a 14-year-old child. MCS arrested another sex offender previously sentenced to five years confinement for felony aggravated sexual assault and contributing to the delinquency of a child. Additionally, a migrant was apprehended with a criminal history and a 24-month incarceration for willful child cruelty. Fort Brown Border Patrol Station (FTB) agents arrestedMauro Martinez-Saenz, a Mexican national, who was sentenced to three years incarceration in Hidalgo County for sexual assault of a child. FTB agents also assisted the U.S. Marshals with an arrest warrant for a U.S. citizen wanted for a drug related kidnapping. RGV agents arrested 17 gang member whose criminal history ranged from possession of a firearm/marijuana, theft, and evading arrest in the U.S. Some of these criminals were arrested in their home country foraggravated homicide and terroristic threats. All subjects were processed accordingly.

Grand Opening of Alexandria Bay Port of Entry Release Date Thu, 07/21/2022 - 12:00 ALEXANDRIA BAY, N.Y. - On July 19, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officially opened with a ribbon cutting ceremony the brand new state-of-the-art Port of Entry at Alexandria Bay. The completion of this modernization project was a long time coming, with an unanticipated pandemic during the middle of construction. The main goal of the port expansion project was to increase efficiency and improve traffic flow. Back on August 30, 2017, the Port of Entry began a $215 million expansion project. The Port of Entry is located on Wellesley Island, New York which is on the western part of the Saint Lawrence River. The port is the sixth busiest crossing on the U.S.-Canadian border, processing nearly 600,000 passenger vehicles each year. The Port of Entry has existed since 1938 when the Thousand Islands International Bridge System was constructed. The Bridge System connects Wellesley Island to Hill Island in Ontario, Canada. The previous Main Administration Building and Passenger Processing Facility was built in 1975 by the Thousand Islands Bridge Authority. Over the years, the facility became outdated and no longer met the needs of the agency. The port expansion project included two phases, with the phase one being completed in October 2020. Phase two was completed in March 2022, that included the construction of passenger inbound and outbound inspection areas and the port administration. “It’s a state of the art facility that greatly enhances our officers ability to screen incoming passenger and commercial traffic,” said Area Port Director Timothy Walker. The facility is completely modernized and includes Port Director Offices, a conference room, a Mission Support Suite, a computer lab, a muster room and an agriculture lab. Additionally, the facility has a suite for Homeland Security Investigations. The port also has a passenger secondary-inspection plaza and a bus inspection site that has Non-Intrusive Inspection Equipment. Lastly, the facility has interview rooms, a seizure-processing room, holding areas for detention and a tactical and physical training area with a weapons support room. The facility is equipped with eight passenger inspection lanes to includey a bus lane, an enclosed passenger secondary inspection building with a vehicle lift and canopy for secondary inspection parking. To accommodate outbound inspections, the facility has an outbound processing office with two outbound inspection lanes and an outbound secondary inspection canopy. “The biggest features of this new facility are the increased space created for queuing traffic and the additional booths to process passenger, cargo and bus traffic. The new port was built about 300 yards south of the old facility. The old port was so close to the border line that there was never any room to queue the vehicles during high volume traffic. This has always caused traffic issues and delays to our neighbors to the north,” said Assistant Area Port Director Kurt Tennant.

Del Rio Sector Border Patrol Agents Arrest Convicted Sex Offenders Release Date Wed, 07/20/2022 - 12:00 DEL RIO, Texas –U.S. Border Patrolagents assigned to the Del Rio Sector recently apprehended two convicted sex offenders. July 12, Brackettville Station agents encountered Jose Francisco Perdomo-Amador, 61, a citizen of Honduras, after he illegally entered the United States by crossing the Rio Grande River along with another migrant. During processing, records checks revealed that in October 2017 Perdomo-Amador was convicted of sexual assault in Dallas, was subsequently sentenced to two years in prison, and deported in 2021. July 13, Carrizo Springs Station agents encountered Henry Orosco-Miranda, 42, a Guatemalan national, after he illegally entered the United States by crossing the Rio Grande River along with four other migrants. During processing, records checks revealed that in July 2011, Orozco-Bautista was convicted of lewd and lascivious sexual battery upon the elderly/disabled in Orange County, Florida. He was later sentenced to four years in prison and deported in 2015. As convicted felons with prior removals, they face charges of 8 USC § 1326 – Re-entry after Deportation, which carries a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in prison. During fiscal year 2022, Oct. 1, 2021, through June 30, 2022, Del Rio Sector agents have encountered more than 1,651 criminal migrants. Disruption of Stash House Operations Lead to 48 Arrests Release Date Wed, 07/20/2022 - 12:00 EDINBURG, Texas – Rio Grande Valley Sector Border Patrol (RGV) agents interdicted two migrant smuggling stash houses and engaged in a vehicle pursuit. On July 19, RGV agents received information regarding a residence in Alton, Texas, operating as a stash house. Agents in coordination with Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office and the Alton Police Department responded to the location. A search of the residence resulted in the discovery of 13 migrants from El Salvador and Mexico all illegally present in the U.S. No caretaker was identified. That evening, RGV agents received information of another possible human smuggling stash house located in McAllen. Agents and law enforcement authorities responded to the residence and encountered 35 people, determined to be in the U. S. illegally. The nationals of Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador were placed under arrest without incident. No principal was identified at the location. Last night, McAllen Border Patrol Station camera operators notified agents of several people attempting to enter a Ford Expedition in a well-known smuggling area near McAllen. Moments later, agents encountered the vehicle and attempted to initiate a vehicle stop. When the driver failed to yield and sped away, Hidalgo County Constables (HCC) assisted and took lead on the pursuit. The driver eventually came to a stop and exited the vehicle. Agents apprehended four migrants still in the vehicle, and all were determined to be illegally present in the U.S. HCC took custody of the driver to face state charges. All subjects will be processed accordingly.
