Lionel Lehigh Valley 8800 GP 9 Diesel Locomotive, built in 1987 as part of the Black Diamond Set 6-11702. This is a solid built conventional locomotive with dual can motors, solid state electronic reverse unit, illuminated cab, headlights and number boards, beautiful zebra striped front end for visibility, along with two working knuckle couplers. No crew talk or horn sounds were added to this by Lionel because it was part of a starter set. This diesel can pull a long consist of cars. I have 12 lashed to it in this video but it can pull way more. 3:16 Please USE FULL SCREEN to view this video to get the most out of it. It's a little long at about six minutes but worth hanging in to the end to see a simulated night run 5:26 with my layout lit up along with the illuminated cab and caboose. Marx suggested running the 2824 Missile Gondola with three different locomotives in three different sets. Those locomotives were the 666, 1666 steamers and the 2002 diesel 2002 New Haven. All of which I have, but looking at the 2824 I personally felt the 1998 yellow, gray and red UP Alco S3 Switcher was the perfect match up. The other cars are basically all from the matching sets.

Lionel Amtrak Genesis 160 LionChief+2.0 running with a set of Amtrak passenger cars from the Lionel 1663 Lake Shore Set. CREW TALK at - 0:23, 0:46, 4:18, 4:50, 5:10, 5:36 5:50, 6:02, 6:20 HEAVY SMOKE at- 5:25 Try using full screen, it really makes a difference. Also if you like the train to go slightly faster go to the video's settings and change speed to 1.25

Nice 4-4-2 Atlantic Locomotive pulling a consist of mid-fifties maroon knuckle coupler passenger, mail and baggage cars. The cars are numbered 918, 955 (2 of them), 951, 935 and a 930 illuminated caboose. The locomotive pulls well, smokes and is illuminated. If you watch long enough near the end you will see the operating mail car working as well as the operating passenger coach. There is a typo at the end of the video that misidentifies the 935 as a 975, my apologies.

Lionel Bicentennial Liberty Special train set. Set number1577 was made in 1975. It came with a single motor powered A Unit number 8570 plus three boxcars and a caboose. The locomotive also had a manual reverse, traction tires, front headlight and a roof mounted horn. The boxcars and caboose were consecutively numbered and decorated in the bicentennial theme. This was originally a inexpensive set but has turned out to have a collectible status among those of us who appreciate model trains. Enjoy the video and please like and subscribe if you do.

Lionel RS=3 BNSF Burlington Northern Santa Fe 3717 LionChief running with a Menards Boxcar, MTH Tank Car and Caboose. I bought this through the Lionel Store warehouse sale and it came without a remote controller so I need to use the Lionel phone app to control it. You will hear me speak a few commands and generally it responds as it should although some times repetition is necessary. I found that turning the voice link off between commands to clear it is a good idea.

Here is the Marx El Capitan Passenger Set 9640A With No.21 Santa Fe double AA Locomotives. The Marx number 21 is a pressed steel FT type F3 diesel locomotive. A beautiful red, yellow and silver Santa Fe bonnet style engine. The silver passenger cars in this set are two of the 3152 ATSF Coaches, the 3152 ATSF short Vista Dome, and the 3197 ATSF El Capitan Observation Car. The coaches and the observation car are non illuminated with solid windows and the vista dome is illuminated with silhouette windows. The non-illuminated solid window cars came with the set and the vista dome was purchased later. Cars not shown that also came in the mixed freight and passenger 9640A set were the 44572 Gondola, the1950 Green GAEX Boxcar, and the 1951 Red Caboose. Look for them in the video. There is a very well written article about the El Capitan set(s) in the Classic Toy Trains (CTT) May/June 2022 Issue if you wish to learn more about the original train and other Marx cars and locomotives used in some other El Capitan consists. The article states that Marx used the number 21 on it's first El Capitan locomotive because that was the number of the original El Capitan west bound train. As I understand it the K-Line O-Gauge Budd cars were manufactured using the old Marx Train Budd car molds with some minor modifications. The cars are approximately 13.5 inches long and have plastic window inserts with pictures of passengers visible from the outside. All cars have two mounted diesel style roof horns made from plastic, one on each end. The diesel locomotive has the K-Line double can motors with four traction tires for pulling a decent load of cars. These trains came in several different road names including Reading as seen here, along with the Western Pacific, Baltimore and Ohio, and Amtrak.

Lionel Scout Set #1465 With a 2-4-2 Columbia Locomotive #2034, 6066T Tender and Original Cars made only in 1952. Although originally an inexpensive set, this scout locomotive can be scarce in today's market because it came with a metal motor and 3 position reverse unit. Many collectors bought these early on when they were selling for low prices to remove the motor for use in more collectable locomotives. The set came with a 6032 Black Short Gondola and Six Barrel load, 6035 Gray Sunoco One Dome Tank Car, and 6037 Tuscan SP Style Caboose.

K-Line Golden State ABA Alco diesels pulling a mix of Golden State passenger cars from the Southern, Pennsylvania and Rock Island Railroads. This is kind of a long video so I divided up it into two parts. The first part is the quieter section with basically track and car noise. The second part is rather noisy with the Railsounds turned on and horn blowing. The "B" Units belonging to the Golden State set are rather rare so for now I substituted a K-Line Pennsylvania "B" Unit of the same series, technically correct since the Golden State did pull some Pennsylvania cars. Brilliant post war (1950-52) 660-663 aluminum passenger cars running behind a 290 American Flyer locomotive from the same era. The cars are still gleaming even though they haven't been polished up for a few years. I used Blue Magic metal polish on them several years ago and it has passed the test of time very well.

Operation K-Line Desert Storm features K-Lines 1991 Desert Storm Set 1125u. The video contains the full original set plus all of the add on cars K-Line produced to enhance the set. In the background you can catch a glimpse of the Lionel National Guard cars lashed to an Amtrak diesel. I added in the Lionel Ammo car at one point to the Desert Storm set to demonstrate the Lionel Ammo Loader. Thought I would upload this to honor veterans who gave their all on this Memorial day weekend.

Lionel Union Pacific #4520 LionChief Switcher Locomotive & Tender with Rail Sounds, Puffing Smoke, Crew Talk, and Bluetooth Remote. I recently purchased this off of eBay. It has the best whistle sound I've heard and operates beautifully. Originally it was part of set 6-1923040 that came with a tank car, boxcar and a caboose but I purchased this as a set take out with no box. The locomotive also works with the LionChief remote smart phone app. This is one of the early LionChief Locomotives and does not have the remote control couplers that can open and close with the remote. I miss that feature but for the price it's a nice buy.

Uncatalogued Lionel 1989 Big Top Circus Locomotive with assorted circus cars.

"How To Make Scrubery" demonstrates how to make very inexpensive scenery out of a tile and tub scrub refill for train layouts or diorama type projects. Only materials needed are a scrub refill available at most grocery stores, a pair of scissors and a little creativity.

Washington 21089 FY&PPR 4-4-0 Steam Locomotive built by A.C. Gilbert 1960-61. Comes with tender, 24565 Cannon Car, 24055 Gold Belt Line Boxcar, and two Red 24750 Frontier Style Passenger Cars.

Lionel Amtrak 1815 RS-3 (Item# 18815 or 6-18815) manufactured 1991. I lashed it up to my Amtrak passenger cars from the 1663 Lake Shore Limited set from 1976.

MTH 20-94536 Victoria Terminal Railway & Ferry Co. #317 Premier O Gauge 36' Woodsided Reefer Model Train Car Unboxing. This is a very limited edition produced by MTH for the Canadian Toy Train Association. It is intricately detailed with die-cast sprung trucks, center opening doors, opening roof hatches, metal wheels, magnetic knuckle couplers and other details such as metal steps and ladders.

Marx #41831 Santa Fe Diesel E7 Freight Set with 1095 AB units along with the original freight cars.

Marx Mercury Articulated Passenger Set 7077 with a 635 gray electric streamline steam locomotive Mercury 635 and four passenger cars. This set was produced for the Spiegel catalog store sometime between 1938 to 1941.

Reading & Northern Live Steam Locomotive belching smoke coming through the Lehigh Gorge in Jim Thorpe, PA.

My 2023 AA Diesel Units pulling matching Lionel Passenger cars. The cars are the Hillside, Chatham and Maplewood. Through a Marx tin tunnel and around a curve with high speed warning lights flashing.

Lionel 6-8309 Famous American Railroad Series from 1983, Mikado Steam Locomotive #4501 and Tender. Comes with electronic whistle, mighty sound of steam, puffing smoke, headlight, magnetraction and pulmore motor with forward, neutral and reverse. These FARR locomotives had low production numbers and are quite collectible. The whistle sound on these wasn't spectacular but they were excellent pullers. As you watch the video the Mikado will pass another Lionel Southern, a GP9 and also a 1924 #254 O gauge with passenger cars. If you think the train is traveling to fast, click on settings in the video and change speed from normal to .75, it makes quite a difference.

Run forward and reverse around my smaller layout. Track view using a camera mounted on a Lionel log car in front of the locomotive. Scenery consists of running around the backs of buildings, next to but not through a tunnel and stopping in front of the station. Video is short, only about 2 minutes.
