Punkhorn for Brewsterites - A Reference Guide for the Rest of Us on Instagram
A Guide to Equitable use of Public Wild Lands for Recreation and Habitat Conservation
by The Brewster Sportsman's Club, Brewster
Hunting in the Punkhorn Parklands Compromise Proposal
There is a proposed plan for a bow and arrow only hunt during a three-week period in December, commencing on the first Monday and ending on the third Saturday. In accordance with Massachusetts hunting laws, hunters must be duly licensed and have completed a 12-16 hour long Basic Hunter Education Safety Course.
The 865 acre, Punkhorn Parklands, has been closed to hunting for over 30 years due to public misconceptions about hunting and concerns about public safety. Research shows that regulated hunting, particularly archery hunting, is a safe activity for all outdoor recreators, hunting and non-hunting alike. In Massachusetts, there are no recorded injuries to non-hunters due to archery hunting. Archery deer hunters typically hunt from elevated tree stands where visibility is enhanced and shooting distance is extremely limited. Archery deer hunters most often hunt independently, meaning they do not pursue deer in large parties and do not participate in “deer drives”.
The MA Division of Fisheries and Wildlife conducted surveys in the Punkhorn Parklands in 2020 and found deer densities to be at least double the management goal of 12-18 deer per square mile. Deer overabundance results in ecological damage that negatively impacts many other species including native plants, pollinators, threatened and endangered species, and even common and abundant species. Due to high reproductive rates and high fawn survival, deer abundance will continue to rise if a hunting plan is not implemented.
Hunting in Brewster is already extremely limited. The only public properties open in town for hunting are the Water Department land on Freemans Way and Mother’s Bog. These areas are only open for archery and black powder hunting. Hunters and non-hunters have safely recreated on these properties concurrently for years. This same peaceful coexistence can extend to the Punkhorn Parklands property, particularly for a short 18-day period. The proposal suggests that the southern portion of Punkhorn Parklands, where there are no marked hiking trails, be open to limited archery hunting.
The Town of Brewster has many places for non-hunters to enjoy the outdoors. With the addition of the Sea Camps land and the Dog Park, this gives Brewster residents two additional properties to utilize. Responsible and respectful hunters should be permitted to use town properties just as other recreators are allowed to.

Fillmore East Moments by Robert N Frissora - Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
If you're a fan of rock promoter, Bill Graham, the songs of Crosby Stills Nash & Young or the lore of the Fillmore East, it's an honor to share some of my Dad's art from his more famous creative days.
It was June 5th, 1970 and the hottest rock n roll theater show was about to begin! Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young would step onto the stage and make history at "The Church of Rock and Roll," Bill Graham's Fillmore East. And Bill Graham's art director, Robert N. Frissora, was in the theater taking pictures for their next event promotion.
Bob and Bill developed a great friendship as his team helped drive audiences to the Fillmore East for many years, creating stylish ad spots, posters and many of the printed materials used to promote the venue. Many of which are collectors items today.
It was a big job. With two, triple-bill shows every night of the week, Bob and his friend and partner, Don Wilson, spent a lot of time at the artboard making comps for the hundreds of spreads, billboards, slicks and inserts to rush to press.
A new dad, commuting from the Bronx each day to the Wilson-Frissora design agency on Madison Avenue, Bob also provided the creative direction and advertising strategy that played a key role in the Fillmore East's success and the warped, free-form typography poster style that became an inextricable part of the cultural imagery of the late '60s.
Robert Frissora became Bill's right-hand adman to develop the hip and effective vehicles to reach out to the young, rock n roll, anti-war, love and peace movement. Without the internet, records of songs were the breath of that age. The Fillmore East turned into their megaphone. And the exhalations of dozens of now iconic groups and performers careers' echoed from that stage.
Along with CSNY there was Chicago, Hendrix, Zappa, Lennon, Janis, the Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Zeppelin and the 'house' band, the Allman Brothers. All highlighted with the psychedelic art lighting of Josh White of the Joshua Light Show.
This brief montage includes some of Bob's outtakes and others pics that made it to print and is overlayed with audio segments from a live event recording at the Fillmore East that night.

Shatner In Space - A Trekkie's take on Kirk's real starship
Shatner launched on a short 10-minute flight to suborbital space on Blue Origin's New Shepard spacecraft on Wednesday, Oct. 13, and was moved to tears by what he billed as an experience like no other.
He launched with Blue Origin's Audrey Powers and two paying customers: Chris Boshuizen, co-founder of the San Francisco-based Earth observation company Planet, Glen de Vries, vice chair for life sciences and healthcare at the French software company Dassault Systèmes.
"Everybody in the world needs to do this. Everybody in the world needs to see," he told Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos after landing. "That was unbelievable."
Shatner, 90, became the oldest person ever to fly in space when he launched on New Shepard from Blue Origin's Launch Site One near Van Horn, Texas. Liftoff was set for 10 a.m. EDT (1400 GMT), with a live webcast to begin at 8:30 a.m. EDT (1230 GMT).
"This is the most important and practical concept for space use and for aiding in saving planet Earth -- William Shatner."

Shuriken Sky Cam over 136 Harwich Road Brewster MA - 02631
Welcome to Brewster! Here is an immaculate, renovated, thoughtful, and spacious home that I recently completed a media package for the Cape Cod Squad. Conveniently located near historic 6A, it's close to the Brewster General Store, Breakwater Beach, and the outdoor kitchen is an awesome place to host a cookout. The place is surrounded by professional landscaping, an olive vine trellis and mature plantings in bloom throughout the seasons. I photographed three levels of finished interior space, including a chef's kitchen, movie room, office/studio, 3 bedrooms with gleaming mahogany floors and 2.5 baths. There is even an unfinished bonus space for expansion potential!
It looks awesome in the virtual shots:
