LVT-2 Utah Beach Museum #shorts 28
The Utah Beach Museum is the biggest WW2 museum in the area and had two really unique LVT-2 that were used on Utah Beach during the landings.
They were left outside the museum for years with out any care and it was left to rust beyond recognition.
One was restored in 2010 and the other one wasn't salvageable anymore and was lost.
Now it's in a pretty damaged condition inside the museum.

Archer Tank Destroyer - Walkaround - Nationaal Militair Museum.
The Self Propelled 17pdr, Valentine, Mk I, Archer
was a British tank destroyer during WWII it was based on the Valentine infantry
tank chassis fitted with an Ordnance QF 17 pounder gun.
Designed and manufactured by Vickers-Armstrongs.
development of the Archer started when the army wanted the
17 pounder anti-tank gun, to be moved about the battlefield only by a vehicle.
A variant of the Churchill tank had been built
in 1942 as a self-propelled gun. Other projects were considered using
obsolete tank chassis, including the Valentine for its reliability and low profile
and the Crusader for its good power-to-weight ratio.
The Valentine chassis was soon chosen and was also one of the few chassis
that could accommodate such a large gun.
Since the Valentine had a small hull and it was not possible to use a turret,
the gun was rear mounted in a simple, low, open-topped armoured box,
this would mean, the gun was facing to the back.
On firing, the gun breech recoiled just shy of the driver's space,
with the driver staying in position, in case the vehicle needed to move quickly.
655 were produced between March 1943 and May 1945.
The rear mounting combined with its low silhouette made the Archer an
excellent ambush weapon, allowing its crew to fire,
then drive away without turning round.
The first prototype was completed in 1943,
with firing trials carried out in April 1943.
Production started in mid-1943 and the Archer
entered service in October 1944.
It was used in North-West Europe and in Italy.
By the end of the war, 655 of them had been produced.
It would see service until the 1950s.
Post-war, the Egyptian Army received 200 ex-British Archers
after the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. Some were successfully
used against Israeli armour in 1956.
After the war 12 remained in the Netherlands after the liberation.
The Royal Netherlands Army did train crews
for the 'Archer', but the vehicles were ultimately not placed
with new units of the artillery.
and were scrapped and this vehicle and the one in Overloon survived.

M8 Greyhound wreck - Walkaround - Normandy.
The M8 light armored car is a 6×6 armored car produced
by the Ford Motor Company during WWII
It was used from 1943 by United States
and British forces in Europe
In July 1941 the U.S. Army Ordnance Department initiated
the development of a new fast tank destroyer to
replace the M6 37 mm gun motor carriage
In April 1942 the T22 was selected
despite complaints about deficiencies
By then it was clear that the 37 mm gun
would not be effective against the front
armor of German tanks so the new armored car
now designated the M8 took on a reconnaissance role instead
production of the M8 started in March of 1943 and
ended in June 1945.
A total of 8,523 M8 and
3,791 M20 armored cars were built.
The M8 would see action in Europe and the Pacific
until the end of the war
Even due the vehicle was armed and armored well
enough for reconnaissance missions
the turning radius was considered too wide
and the engine was considered underpowered
Off-road mobility was also poor when on soft ground
In British service, the M8 was known as the Greyhound
a nickname seldom used by the US forces
After the war the M8 would see action in
the Korean War First Indochina War and the Vietnam
War
The M8 would be used by many countries around the world
and is still used by a lot of countries today.
This M8 has no historical information
and was probably a postwar French vehicle
It was placed here with several other vehicles
to be used as range targets.

M3A3 Stuart - Quineville Museum - Utah Beach - Normandy.
The M3 Light tank was developed after the American tank designers realized that the Light Tank M2 was becoming obsolete and set about improving it, the M2 was based upon the prototype T2 light tank built by Rock Island Arsenal, after it became clear that the US Army was ill-prepared as far as armored vehicles, training and tactics went. and in 1939 it became clear that a new model, which could be favorably compared to the European models, had to be studied for mass production.
The upgraded design, had thicker armor, and for the time the M3 was heavily armored for a Light Tank, it also had modified suspension and new gun recoil system and would be called the Light Tank M3. Production of the vehicle started in March 1941 and continued until October 1943.
The M3 was initially armed with a 37 mm M5 gun and five .30-06 Browning M1919A4 machine guns, on top of the turret in an M20 anti-aircraft mount, in a ball mount in right bow, and in the right and left hull sponsons. Later, the gun was replaced with the slightly longer M6, and the sponson machine guns were removed.
The M3A3 was a new design based on the experience made by the English in North Africa, The A3 would have a gyro-stabilizer, hydraulically controlled turret, and would have the side armament removed by a new frame made of welded steel sheets, with the Continental W-670 gasoline engine.
It would also get new access hatches on the top hull, and the radio equipment was moved to the rear of the turret.
It was supplied to British and other Commonwealth forces under lend-lease prior to the entry of the U.S. into the war, like the Free French Forces which used a lot of these tanks in the Battle of Normandy, Battle for Paris and in the Battle of The Bulge.
The A3 would only see a short production time and was discontinued for the M5 after 3,427 units build.
This M3a3 with Serial Number 13208 saw service in the French army, it was shipped to a target range and saved by the
Saumur Tank Museum and placed in their collection, it's now on loan to the WW2 Museum and restored in Quineville in 2019 and placed
on display outside their museum

SEXTON 25pdr SP - Walkaround - Ver-Sur-Mer - Espace Robert Kiln.
The 25pdr SP, tracked, Sexton was a Canadian-designed self-propelled artillery vehicle.
Development of the Sexton started after the British General Staff requirement a vehicle with mobility and characteristics of
the M7 Priest but with the QF 25 pounder gun-howitzer.
the Priest used the American 105 mm howitzer which was not in use
in other British units.
Having to supply different ammunition for just a few units complicated supply for the British Army.
The Americans started working on a T51 prototype 25 pounder Howitzer Motor Carriage, but this vehicle suffered delays, so Britain turned to Canada.
The Canadians were asked to build a vehicle similar to the M7 on the Ram tank chassis.
A prototype was completed on 23 June 1942, which would follow trials in Canada and in the United Kingdom in early 1943. the vehicle was found to be highly satisfactory and was given the designation "Sexton" and 300 orders of the Sextons would follow in the summer of 1943.
The British Sextons were to be built on Grizzly tank hulls instead of Ram tank hulls.
The Ram-based Sexton was designated as the Sexton Mark I and the Grizzly-based Sexton was designated the Sexton Mark II. British orders for the Sexton II eventually totaled 2,026 vehicles.
The Sexton would first see combat in Italy and later in the Battle of Normandy and the invasion of France
During the D-day landings, a number of Sextons were ordered to fire
from their landing craft as they approached the beaches although
the fire did not prove to be very accurate, because of the unstable platform.
But it proved to be a successful design that remained in British service until 1956.
This Sexton has no historical information it was probably sold to Portugal and ended up with many vehicles at Pounds of Portsmouth scrapyard in the UK in the 1980.
It was sold and restored in the 90s and with the effort from Dr Matthew KILN placed as a monument at Ver-Sur-Mer in memory of his father. Major Robert KILN, and the British troops who landed on this beach.

Jagdpanzer IV wreck roofpart
The Jagdpanzer IV roof part at the Remember Museum 43/45 in Thimister-Clermont, Belgium.
The museum claims it came from a Jagdpanzer IV L70, which was knocked out in Montzen on September 11th and would have been part of the 116th Panzer Division, Windhund of 228th Panzerjager BN. The vehicle is obviously a L/48, because you can see that it has the 7.5 cm Pak 39, with the muzzle break removed.
Like many other museums in this area, you probably have to take this story with a grain of salt.

Centaur A27 Mock Up - Walkaround - D-Day Overlord.
History Video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOvoeP2tttQ Number explanation video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yV9J3nX9ykc
This Centaur Dozer mock up can be found in Hermanville-sur-mer, Normandy. Before 2000 you could find a Churchill AVRE on this spot, now you can find a Centaur in it's place. The Churchill was owned by the Imperial Museum and when it was returned to the museum, this tank was restored to be it's replacement, the Centaur was originally a Centaur Dozer, it was restored at Duxford by the Imperial War Museum. It got a Cavalier turret which was recovered on a fire range in the UK. Today you can still see the damage. Some of the fittings of the Centaur Dozer tank can still be seen on the hull.
