D-Day 80 Years Later | Uncut History 62
On June 6, 1944, the much anticipated Allied invasion of German-occupied France commenced with air & sea landings along the Normandy coastline. At least 4,000 Allied soldiers were killed, inflicting equal if not more German fatalities before the first day of Allied Liberation of France had concluded. Today we reflect upon the most important amphibious assault in world history.

Battle of Cold Harbor | Uncut History #61
By early June 1864, Ulysses S Grant and his union forces were in a remarkable position. They were less than a dozen a miles away from the confederate capital of Richmond. Grant feels the enemy is demoralized and one major assault will be enough to not just defeat them, but end the American Civil War. However, history reveals he greatly miscalculated Robert E Lee and the Army of Northern Virginia at the vital crossroads of Cold Harbor. This is the finale of the Overland Campaign!

Battle of North Anna | Uncut History #60
We continue our live coverage of the Overland Campaign 160 years later. After enduring two terrible weeks in trenches around Spotsylvania Courthouse, the union Army of the Potomac attempt to outflank their enemy by crossing the North Anna River. Once more, the confederate Army of Northern Virginia is able to outpace them, digging in on high ground overlooking multiple water crosses. Here, Robert E Lee has the potential to break apart Ulysses S Grant's ambitions of continuing upon the confederate capital of Richmond. Today we know Lee will ultimately fail, but why? Find out in this edition of Uncut History.

The Field Of Lost Shoes, 160 Years Later | Uncut History 59
We've been discussing the fierce battles waged between Lee & Grant in Spring of 1864, but the Overland Campaign was merely the keystone of a much wider offensive. Amongst the multiple union armies advancing into confederate territory was the Department of West Virginia, who aimed to finally capture the Shenandoah Valley. But on May 15th, 1864, those plans would meet setback by resistance from form US Vice President John C Breckinridge and a confederate defense that included over 200 cadets from the Virginia Military Instittue. What followed would be a comparatively small battle yet one of the American Civil War's more tragic events would transpire here.

The Overland Campaign continued 160 years ago with a week-long fight for control over Spotsylvania Courthouse. It was hoped by Ulysses S Grant that his union army could move quick enough to capture it, but miscommunication allowed Robert E Lee to block the way to Richmond. What followed would be an attack so brutal most popular retelling of the American Civil War overlook it, The Bloody Angle.

In 1794, the United States of America received its first major challenge towards its new constitution. President Washington would successfully raise an army to put down a rebellion of Pennsylvania's westernmost counties over a tax on whiskey. Washington made his headquarters in the residence of a former militia officer in the American Revolution, which we pay a visit to in this edition of Retracing History.
