Ocean life & living Bay of Bengal
The Bay of Bengal is the northeastern part of the Indian Ocean, bounded
on the west and northwest by India, on the north by Bangladesh, and
on the east by Myanmar and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands of India.
Its southern limit is a line between Sangaman Kanda, Sri Lanka and the
north westernmost point of Sumatra (Indonesia). It is the largest water
region called a bay in the world. There are countries dependent on the
Bay of Bengal in South Asia and Southeast Asia. In ancient India, Bay
of Bengal was known as Kalinga Sagar. Later during the British India, it
came forth as the Bay of Bengal after the historic Bengal region, as the
Port of Kolkata served as the gateway to the Crown rule in India. Cox's
Bazar, the longest sea beach in the world and Sundarbans, the largest
mangrove forest and the natural habitat of the Bengal tiger, are located
along the bay.

"Surprising Minds" at Sea Life Brighton: Experiment stimulus 06.
"'Surprising Minds" is an interactive science exhibit at Sea Life Brighton
which explores new ways to ask scientific questions about behaviour
and the mind "in the wild". We hope that the exhibit will help us make
research in neuroscience and cognitive science more inclusive and
accessible.
This video shows one of the stimulus sequences shown to anyone
who activated the exhibit and chose to participate in the embedded
experiment. The first video clip is one of six unique sequences, randomly
chosen for each participant, while the second video clip (video credit: Dr.
Roger Hanlon, Woods Hole, USA) was shown to all participants. While
participants watch these short videos, we record their eyes up close,
then re-play the recording so that people can see what their eyes do
when they watch things!

Tonga's mysterious & beautiful ocean after dark is full of strange life.
The underwater world is full of animals that are strange and wonderful in
comparison with those that we see on land. This scuba diver slipped into
the water from the island of Vava'u in the Kingdom of Tonga, taking his
lights and camera with him to show us what emerges from their hiding
places after the darkness sets in. The reefs are beautiful and appealing
during daylight with their colours and picturesque beauty. The reefs are
equally beautiful at night but this world and its creatures undergo an
incredible transformation. This is when many animals emerge silently to
hunt and explore. The delicate balance between the hunter and the
hunted is complex and it can change in an instant. The cover of darkness
provides the perfect means for animals to go undetected, like the
octopus, one of nature's stealthiest killers. They glide through the water
or slither over the ocean bottom, coordinating their eight powerful arms
to find and ensnare prey, even in tight crevices. The octopus explores the
rocks and coral with its tentacles while it spreads its mantle wide to
capture any prey that are lucky enough to avoid the suckers on its arms.
Once the octopus gets the fish its grasp, there is no chance for escape. A
stingray cruises under the diver and glides over the sand in search of tiny
animals buried beneath. Their electroreceptor cells are able to detect
minute electric currents from mollusks and crustaceans that hide on the
ocean floor. A porcupine fish drifts slowly over the sand and debris.

This bizarre ocean animal is believed to hold a cure for Covid-19 and cancer.
The ocean is full of strange and diverse life, with secrets well beyond our
understanding, and even beyond our imagination. Scientists are finding
new animals and new plants constantly and applying what they learn
about them in ways that could change our lives. Scientists have made a
discovery very recently surrounding one of the ocean's smallest and
most numerous inhabitants and a strong possibility of a cure for Covid.

Unexploded Navy Mines Floating Freely In The Western Black Sea
Towards NATO Waters. Risk of Collateral Damage in the North Western
Black Sea. Russia warned that mines that Ukrainians had deployed in
the Black Sea against its 'military operation" could drift as far as the
Straits of Bosphorus and the Mediterranean Sea. After the start of the
Russian special military operation, Ukrainian naval forces had deployed
barriers of mines around the ports of Odessa, Ochakov, Chernomorsk
and Yuzhny. The mines were "dilapidated" and made in the first half of
the 20th century. Storms have cut cables to some of those mines that
are now floating freely in the western Black Sea, pushed along by wind
and the currents. The possibility is not ruled out that the Ukrainian navy
intentionally allowed the release of certain naval mines. They should drift
on the sea currents towards NATO waters. Given the direction of the
currents the floating of the mines toward the Bosphrous and then on to
the Mediterranean is not excluded. It is possible that soon, on the beach
of the Black Sea, near Romania and Bulgaria, we will see such images.
