In this video, we'll answer another question that we often get… What to do if your fire extinguisher is expired?
Another question that I get is… What to do if your fire extinguisher is expired? Well certain brands in fact most of them do not expire. They must have a 6-year maintenance and then a 12-year hydrostatic test, provided that the fire extinguisher doesn’t have any dents or rust or something like that. There are a few of the Kidde brands that have a 12-year shelf life… if they are ever used or if they ever get to that 12-year mark, then they do have to be disposed of. Disposal wise… you can’t just go and throw them into the dumpster. You are not supposed to do that. You need to take the fire extinguisher to somebody that can dispose of them properly. So, call your local guy or someone around that can take care of that for you.

In this video, we'll answer another question that we often get… What does it mean to service a fire extinguisher?
There are a couple different processes that you go through.
One of them is your 6-year maintenance, which requires you to take the fire extinguisher, blow it down and then inspect the inside of the fire extinguisher for rust or any kind of damage to the inside of the canister. Then you have to fill the fire extinguisher, recharge it and while also cleaning all of the parts.
Now if you get a Hydro Test, which has to be done every 12 years, is primarily the same as your other maintenance. You blow it down and then once it is blown down you fill it with water, pressure it up to the required psi to test the canister. Next you empty it, dry it out, then refill and recharge the fire extinguisher pretty much the same way as during the 6-year maintenance.

owner, Clint Rainey. https://outbackfiresafety.com/
In this video, we'll answer a question that we get every once in a while: Can you recharge a fire extinguisher yourself
The quick answer is no, you cannot. State law says that you cannot do that and it must be done by a licensed professional. Not only that, but you must have the proper equipment to be able to do it anyway. So, the answer to this question is no, but if you have a question or if you look at your gauge and it shows that you aren’t in the green anymore, then call your local guy and have him take a look at it or just give him a shout and he will be able to fix you up.
If you have any additional questions or need support with recharging your fire extinguisher, then just give US a shout here at Outback Fire & Safety.

How do I inspect a fire extinguisher with Outback Fire & Safety
How do I inspect a fire extinguisher with Outback Fire & Safety owner, Clint Rainey. https://outbackfiresafety.com/
In this video, we'll answer one of our most frequently asked questions: How do I inspect a fire extinguisher?
If you are a business owner, then you need to be looking at your extinguishers on a monthly basis to make sure that your gauge is still reading in the green.
As far as your annual inspection, you must be a licensed professional to be able to do that. That is what we are here at Outback Fire & Safety. A licensed professional will look to make sure that there isn’t any damage or rust to the canister and make sure that the gauge is still reading and in the green. If it passes inspection, then we add an inspection tag on the fire extinguisher. Then you are good to go until the next year.
