☀🌊 Goooood moooooorning, Manilaaaaaaa! 🏢❤ I arrived at the beach this morning around 3:45AM, and I got the idea for and started this timelapse around 5AM — Thursday, February 23, 2023; I ended it at approximately 6:30AM. I ALWAYS feel amazing when I am at the beach for the arrival of the sun ☀️ ... it's just does something good to my soul. Anyway, this is a 7-minute timelapse — I'm just learning how to do them (they are a million times easier than I thought); I'll do better next time — it's, uh, kinda long. But that said, the video DOES show the arrival of the sun's light ☀️ — the ENTIRE reason for the timelapse — but you can also watch me clean the beach for a few minutes. Haha 🙃😁 Exciting! The Manila Baywatch — formed by Manila Bay Beach — with invaluable, foundational contributions from the Philippine Mountain Rangers and Wildlife Enforcers (it would not have been possible without them) — is a community watch organization devoted to both environmental protection and crime prevention, as well as providing first-aid and potentially life-saving services along the entire 900m Manila Baywalk. The First Step was to establish a strong volunteer program. Done. This video focuses on the Second Step: the Philippine Mountain Rangers and Wildlife Enforcers, aka the Environmental Soldiers. After successful completion of the Environmental Soldier, 8-week training program — graduates may choose to be inducted into the Manila Baywatch and serve and protect alongside and in cooperation with both the DENR and the Philippine National Police (PNP), in addition to support from both the Philippine Coast Guard and Philippine Navy. ☀️🌊 When something is important enough, you do it even if the odds are not in your favor. You simply identify your highest good ... and you do that. Why would anyone do anything else? As you may or may not be aware, the Supreme Court Mandamus (🖊 issued in December of 2008) has stated that the water in Manila Bay must reach the safety standard of 100MPN/100mL. Once that level of cleanliness is reached, swimming 🏊‍ will be allowed — this includes swimming at the Manila Baywalk Dolomite Beach. Previously, prior to the Battle for Manila Bay (rehabilitation efforts ☀️🌊🌴🕶⛱ finally started in Januray 2019), the ambient water readings in Manila Bay averaged approximately 10,000,000MPN/100mL. Manila ... that is simply gross 🤢🤮 and nasty: a reflection of decades of both indifference and neglect. Illustrating that nature does indeed need time to heal — but that healing can and does happen ☀️🦀🐠🐟🌊 — the current water cleanliness along the Manila Baywalk averages 1000MPN/100mL (as of December 2022). Although there is still MUCH work that needs to be done, the progress is very encouraging and uplifting. Still, the work continues daily. It's a story of community, awareness, contribution and genuine concern ❤️🧡💛🤎 for both our environment and one another 👫👫🧍‍♂️👬🧍‍♀️👭🧍🧍‍♂️👫👬🧍‍♀️👫🧍👫 — as acquaintances, neighbors, friends and family. It's an inspiring, uplifting story 🤩 that demonstrates — via action, not words — the direction that Manila is headed. (Spoiler Alert: ⬆️ Up.) 🎵🤩 Man in the Mirror 🤩🎵 is easily one of my all-time favorite songs ❤️ — so it certainly gets its fair share of airplay on Manila Bay Beach Radio 🎧🎤 — but recently the song has been at the forefront of my mind for reasons beyong simple enjoyment. As a result of Habagat season ⛈💨🌧, a heartbreaking 💔❤️‍🩹 amount of trash has piled up on Metro Manila's coastal areas. The southwest monsoon waves 🌊 and winds 💨 have brought water hyacinths and improperly disposed solid wastes onto our shores ... and it truly breaks my heart. This isn't ❌ okay. Even if it's "normal" by recent historical standards ... it isn't ❌ okay. That's how/when 🎵🤩 Man in the Mirror 🤩🎵 came to mind: because it's time to make a change, Manila. Roxas Boulevard and the Manila Baywalk have been my home 🏢❤️🧡🤎 for the past seven years — and they will remain my home 🏢❤️🧡🤎 until the day I die: I'm not ❌ going anywhere. I am a member of the ⭐️ Kingdom of God ⭐️ — the same as you — the same as every person across this Earth 🌏 — and this is my little corner of ⭐️ God's Kingdom ⭐️.
