Watching The Whales
Re-upload. (I missed a few tweaks, plus I'm testing around on video uploading quality.) This is like an archive of whale shots taken on my camera phone, either from the front yard or from the water while traveling or fishing.
Well, you don't already have your camera out and ready when a whale comes along and surprises you. The camera comes out when you are on your way somewhere and, oh wow, there's a whale! I did get ONE breach shot on here but it was from so far away that it's almost comical. There's one clip where Bob Q is in the background using some colorful vernacular; I left it in there because I found it so amusing 😉 so uh, I guess that would make this not rated "G", beware, haha. ✨

Iced In in EXI
This is some of what winter is like for us; our main route in and out sometimes freezes over, preventing access for boats and planes.

Pine Marten
Ever since we got a dog, we don't see these critters anymore. They are cute, but its a good thing that they don't come around the house anymore. They are famous for eating through walls to get in houses, rip everything apart and leave excement around.

Sea Otters
I love otters! Both kinds! They are very social and playful, the two things that they are most famous for, besides eating a ton of food all the time! This is a collection of phone clips taken over the years. the first is a raft of otters we were passing in the water on our way to the cannery (2019, autumn)... the next is looking through binoculars from the boathouse, watching them play on the edge of the ice sheet (February 2018)... the rest was down at the water in front of the boathouse watching them play on and around the ice sheet (January 2021).

Octopus Raids Our Shrimp Pot
Octopus LOVE to eat shrimp. It's one of, if not the most favorite food for them. April 20, 2023 we found one raiding our shrimp pot. Paul brought it home to show me. Then, on June 18th, an octopus was found in the shrimp pot again. We aren't sure if it was the same octopus, or a sibling perhaps. The only reason they appear as different colors is that octopus constantly change their colors, usually to match the background environment. Both times the octopus was set free after we filmed. We love octopus. We love all beings! 💖✨ (...well... except for bedbugs and other pesky weevil varmints. 👹)

Old Greenhouse Footage from 2019 & 2020
Just a little bit of footage from greenhouse work here. Every year between 2018 and 2022 were radically different in the greehouse. I kept setting things up different each year and expanding on better ideas. In 2022, Paul yanked a plank of wood on the corner of the thing in frustration (he banged his head on it) and that winter while we were stuck in town an unusually huge and heavy snowfall made the greenhouse top cave in. It was on its last legs anyways; it had been there for decades previous to our being here and the constant rainfall in this climate is hard on wooden structures. The lower parts of all the walls were rotting apart and walls and beds were beginning to collapse. So now we have no greenhouse, but continue to dream of aquiring what we need to get a new greenhouse setup.

Porcupine Fight
One day I came outside and heard the funniest noises (they were the cutest noises!) and there were 3 or 4 porcupines all in the yard which is kinda unusual. I think they may be a little territorial. Honestly, it looks to me like Big Daddy is asking (& stalking) for some, but Mamma ain't havin' it. She's like "leave me the f* alone!" Her upset noises go on for hours after he finally goes away. It goes to show how long lasting the stress is from unwanted approaches, when your no means no and you aren't backing down but are still being pursued... which would surprise me in porcupines, because they don't have the human safety concerns to contend with, like diseases, money and ludacrous social status rules. 🤷🏻♀️

Big Momma Porcupine Nursing Baby (in our yard)
How amazed I was on this day when I noticed a big momma porcupine nursing her baby right in front of the house. Porcupines have poor eyesight, and so with my iPhone camera (this is my only camera & what I shoot everything with) I slowly walked right up to her to get this up close. At some point you can see her look sideways at me like, "Hey, wait a minute, that tree wasn't there before!" It slowly dawns on her that another creature may be right there next to her and so she and baby waddle away... They spent the rest of the day enjoying their all time favorite food: white clover flowers. ❤️

Don't Mess With Porcupine
There's this thing where wildlife like to walk right up to me and so when I saw her about to walk right into me I opened the door of the house to go inside and both the dogs of course came running back out to hunt! Ugh! Even after getting quilled Hank still wouldn't stop chasing porcupines! He was so bad about chasing wildlife that we had to send him back... He was a rez dog from Arizona. I guess previous owners trained him to hunt everything. Goes to show how your environment plays a huge part in how you are accepted.

Bears in The Neighborhood
For some reason most of the bears seen in our yard are black bears. The brown bears are in all the other neighbors' yards. I think it's because we have the most berries, way more than all the others. Black bears are berry bears. Blacks and browns eat a lot of the same stuff, but browns really love stocking up on fish.

Fishermen's Friends Feast & Fun
Big Paul and Deb living off grid in Southeast Alaska. Shrimping, crabbing, fishing and feasting, fishermen friends coming to visit during the fishing season. Just a bunch of home video shots taken with my iPhone, dressed up in a video editor. Memories for our friends and us. Paul commercial fished for about 40 years of his life, between Massachusetts, Maine and Alaska, so he's got a lot of fishermen friends.
