"It's a fine world, though rich in hardships at times" -Augutus McCrae
Today we are joined by Gena Lacoste our FIRST guest!
Gena is an amazing artist from Southern Alberta and has grown up in the ranching culture, this is reflected in her wonderful art. We discuss the depth of the relationship between horses and humans. The history of this relationship and culture is still alive today and we hope it is never lost.
Gena chose the discussion topic for today which is Newt; his losses, his wins and the weight of other’s baggage. Do we need hardship to grow? Do we need to talk about everything? How does knowing yourselves protect us.
We loved this discussion and hope to have Gena back!

The Random Shot?
Shots for Shots!
Today we look at the random shot that hit the turkey and Missed Elmira and Big Zwey. Was it random? Is it a reflection of the chancy life on the plains? Was it for shadowing for what was to some or something else.
Today I read some comments from a Reddit thread called r/LonesomeDove

There is nothing more tragic then someone who is a victim of themselves
There is nothing more tragic then someone who is a victim of themselves
Today Chris does the intro, what do you all think?
We are discussing Maria from The Streets of Laredo, the second book to be released but the last in the series.
Maria really is the quintessential McMurtry character; there is such depth to her. It’s interesting to try to understand the division between self and community, what happens when our families become an issue for the community. Do we owe it to anyone others than ourselves to “figure ourselves out”? Is Call a representation for the struggle of man and Maria the internal struggle for woman?
Do you think Maria is a hero? Do you like her character? What do you think of her as a mother and a community members?

We start today by discussing our new logo and intro- what do y’all think? I like the new music- thanks Chris.
Then we talk about our quick trip to Montana where we got to enjoy the CM Russell Museum in Great Falls. “The Cowboy Artist’s” depictions of Old Montana were honest and impactful. Check them out if you can.
https://cmrussell.org
I also got to go to Fort Benton, it was also cool. The historic buildings were very interesting and beautiful. There is a certain feel to a place when you can look at and touch so much from the past. I stopped in to a beautiful Boutique called Rustic Mug; I got to talk a little history too https://rusticmugmt.com . Thanks to Leslie and Karla
The reading is from the book Lonesome Dove.

uly Johnson
We all know someone that just can’t master their inner self and eventually it starts to dominate their lives and then takes over all their interactions. Today we discuss July Johnson the lovesick Sheriff – is it really duty that drives him?
Do you feel bad for July? Why can’t he just get a hold of himself? Is he really journeying across the land for love? Or duty?

Lonesome Dove LIMIN-tations 6- Love doesn't make the best relationships....
"Love doesn't make the best relationships but loyalty and fortitude might"
Clara Allen a dramatic character in this book and very tragic. We discussed in this video -tragedy, death, the differences between chicks and dudes. We try to understand choosing not to be with someone even if you love them because maybe love isn’t enough? What are the characteristic that make a good relationship and what makes you persevere in that relationship?

The hero that doesn't know he's a hero.
The reading is from the book Streets of Laredo.
Today we discuss my favourite characters PeaEye Parker. He is so often overlooked as a character but I think one of the most dynamic characters in the book though at first glance he seems flat. Is being dependable and hardworking one of the greatest foundations of a person's character? Can a good relationship be a driver for purpose and grit? Can some leadership hold back people. What happens if you beleive what others say about you? What happens when the hero doesn’t know he is a hero?

"You don't get the point ... you never do get the point."
The reading is from the book Lonesome Dove.
Today, Chris and I talk about a Western that explores the Spirit of Man. Deets an African American freeman and “the best man they ever had”- what he brings to the men is undoubtedly needed even if its sometimes not heeded.
We try to understand a “Masculine Trilogy”- the traits of a good man and fathers.

CORRECTION it was our 3 in the series not our 2nd
The reading is from the book Lonesome Dove.
Today, Chris and I talk about the possibility of representing characters musically and what kind of flavor do these personalities possess.
Then we explore leadership through the eyes of Woodrow Call. How does Call ideas around leadership effect his sociability and his reflection on other leaders. Is Call like this because of his leadership model or is his leadership model like this because of Call’s personality? Does Call’s type of leadership this effect how his men view and interact with him?
What happens when leadership isn’t earned? Can leadership be educated into you? Does being “elite” make you a leader? Does a leader need to see themselves as different from the people they are leading?

‘It takes a hell of a storyteller to tell this good of a story that has no happy endings.”
Today my husband and I explore leadership, there are many different types of leaders. How they become leaders, reasons for leading and the impacts leadership my have on leaders. Do we sell ourselves out? Is it good to know your abilities? Can an overly competent leader hold their team back?
