Exploring CIVIL WAR Ruins BURNED by the Union | Sope Creek
In this video I travel to the historic paper mill the Union burned in the civil war. They burned it claiming the Marietta mill printed money for the Union.
The hike is called Sope Creek located in Marietta, Georgia just northwest of Atlanta. The ruins kind of remind me of a mini castle and are fun to explore. So much history surrounding us and so few know about it!

Sope Creek is an 11.6-mile-long (18.7 km)[1] stream located in Cobb County, Georgia, United States. It is a significant tributary of the Chattahoochee River.[2] It was known as Soap Creek during the 19th century. A section of Sope Creek runs through the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area.
The Sope Creek Ruins are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Located at the intersection of Paper Mill Road and Sope Creek are old industrial ruins. These ruins are the remnants of a larger manufacturing complex which drew on the waterpower that the creek produced. During the period 1850 to 1940, a succession of enterprises, from a (fully integrated) paper mill, twine plant, flour mill and hydroelectric power plant occupied an area of about one mile along the creek.
The paper mill at Sope Creek was run by Marietta Paper Mills and incorporated on December 19, 1859, possibly by Andrew Schofield Edmondston and Saxon A. Anderson. Facilities at the paper mill included a mill, oil room, office, mill sluice (raceway), storeroom, dam, machine shop, pulp-grinding mill, and two shelters.[6]
The ruins were added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

Best Sit-On Kayak Under $500? | Pelican Blitz 100X Review
In This Video, I review my Pelican Blitz 100X.
Pelican Blitz 100X Kayak -
https://pelicansport.com/products/kayak-blitz-100x-exo-mbf10p400
Features
To dive right in, this is a single-person sit-on-top kayak that frees your legs allowing a more relaxing time. It has a max weight limit of 300 pounds, yet relatively light weighing only 44 pounds. The length is 9 feet and six inches with a 32-inch width.
On the floor of the boat, you’ll find scupper holes which are small-sized holes that allow water to escape the floorboard so that you don’t sink, which is very important!
Both the front and the back provide storage space. However, I wasn’t a huge fan of the front rubber compartment so I removed it. It also comes with an EXOPOD 17L hard shell storage compartment designed to fit snug in the rear section. While it really is designed quite well, I prefer to use that space for my Drybag or cooler for our kayaking trip.
A few other key features are the center console's dual cup holders, rear bungee cords to secure your items, an incorporated foldable seat, the 4 separate foot pegs depending on your leg length or preference, carry handles on each side, and dual fishing rod holders.
Performance
The overall performance of the Pelican Blitz is extremely good. It has great tracking, remains very stable, is able to withstand large boat waves if you’re kayaking in a lake, turns are easy and smooth, and the overall maneuverability is very impressive.
Build Quality
Not only is its water performance reliable, but it has excellent build quality, as well. It’s constructed of multi-layer polyethylene with advanced resin boosting its overall longevity. The material also provides impact-resistant qualities which is important if you’re hitting rocks along rapids. Going hand and hand with its performance, you’ll also appreciate the Twin-arched multi-chine hull.
Primary Downside
So we talked a lot about the positive attributes of this kayak, but What about the negatives? Other than the weird rubber pad at the front that I ended up removing, I honestly haven’t come across anything to complain about. Unlike my Field & Stream kayak, the Pelican Blitz 100X doesn’t hold any water. Yet, it’s worth noting that this one is also more expensive.

What's Hidden In Linville Old Growth Forest? | Hiking Babel Tower
The old-growth forest hidden in the inner canyons of Linville Gorge is absolutely spectacular due to the inability to log. Although most hikes in the region don't go within the inner gorges, the perfect hike to do so was the epic Babel Tower Trail where you get the only centered view directly through the Gorge. Overall, an amazing hike!

Pisgah National Forest is a National Forest in the Appalachian Mountains of western North Carolina. It is administered by the United States Forest Service, part of the United States Department of Agriculture. The Pisgah National Forest is completely contained within the state of North Carolina. The forest is managed together with the other three North Carolina National Forests (Croatan, Nantahala, and Uwharrie) from common headquarters in Asheville, North Carolina. There are local ranger district offices located in Pisgah Forest, Mars Hill, and Nebo.
An old-growth forest, sometimes synonymous with primary forest, virgin forest, late seral forest, primeval forest, or first-growth forest—is a forest that has attained great age without significant disturbance, and thereby exhibits unique ecological features, and might be classified as a climax community.[1] The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations defines primary forests as naturally regenerated forests of native tree species where there are no clearly visible indications of human activity and the ecological processes are not significantly disturbed. More than one-third (34 percent) of the world's forests are primary forests.[2] Old-growth features include diverse tree-related structures that provide diverse wildlife habitat that increases the biodiversity of the forested ecosystem. Virgin or first-growth forests are old-growth forests that have never been logged. The concept of diverse tree structure includes multi-layered canopies and canopy gaps, greatly varying tree heights and diameters, and diverse tree species and classes and sizes of woody debris.
As of 2020, the world has 1.11 billion ha of primary forest remaining. Combined, three countries (Brazil, Canada, and Russia) host more than half (61 percent) of the world's primary forest. The area of primary forest has decreased by 81 million ha since 1990, but the rate of loss more than halved in 2010–2020 compared with the previous decade.[3]
Old-growth forests are valuable for economic reasons and for the ecosystem services they provide.[4][5] This can be a point of contention when some in the logging industry desire to harvest valuable timber from the forests, while environmentalists seek to preserve the forests in their pristine state for benefits such as maintenance of biodiversity, water purification, flood control, and nutrient cycling. Moreover, old-growth forests are more efficient at sequestering carbon than newly planted forests and fast-growing timber plantations, thus preserving the forests is important to climate change mitigation.

The Great Smoky Mountains (Cherokee: ᎡᏆ ᏚᏧᏍᏚ ᏙᏓᎸ, Equa Dutsusdu Dodalv) are a mountain range rising along the Tennessee–North Carolina border in the southeastern United States. They are a subrange of the Appalachian Mountains, and form part of the Blue Ridge Physiographic Province. The range is sometimes called the Smoky Mountains and the name is commonly shortened to the Smokies. The Great Smokies are best known as the home of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, which protects most of the range. The park was established in 1934, and, with over 11 million visits per year, it is the most visited national park in the United States.[1]
The Great Smokies are part of an International Biosphere Reserve. The range is home to an estimated 187,000 acres (76,000 ha) of old growth forest, constituting the largest such stand east of the Mississippi River.[2][3] The cove hardwood forests in the range's lower elevations are among the most diverse ecosystems in North America, and the Southern Appalachian spruce-fir forest that coats the range's upper elevations is the largest of its kind.[4] The Great Smokies are also home to the densest black bear population in the Eastern United States and the most diverse salamander population outside of the tropics.[5]
Along with the Biosphere reserve, the Great Smokies have been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The U.S. National Park Service preserves and maintains 78 structures within the national park that were once part of the numerous small Appalachian communities scattered throughout the range's river valleys and coves. The park contains five historic districts and nine individual listings on the National Register of Historic Places.
The name "Smoky" comes from the natural fog that often hangs over the range and presents as large smoke plumes from a distance. This fog is caused by the vegetation emitting volatile organic compounds, chemicals that have a high vapor pressure and easily form vapors at normal temperature and pressure.[6]

The Golden Isles of Georgia consist of barrier islands, and the mainland port cities of Brunswick and Darien, on the 100-mile-long coast of the U.S. state of Georgia on the Atlantic Ocean. They include St. Simons Island, Sea Island, Jekyll Island, Little St. Simons Island, Sapelo Island, Blackbeard Island, Historic Darien and Historic Brunswick.
Mild winters, together with natural beaches, vast stretches of marshland, maritime forests, historical sites, and abundant wildlife on both land and sea have made the Golden Isles a travel destination for families, nature-lovers, fishing and water sports enthusiasts, golfers, and history buffs.
All the islands are located within McIntosh County and Glynn County, and make up the lower middle section of Georgia's eleven barrier islands. Annual mild temperatures average 68 °F, with July highs of 90 °F.[1] St. Simons is the largest, with a permanent population of 12,743 residents as of the 2010 census.[2] Curled around its north end and accessible only by boat is Little St. Simons Island—privately owned and maintained in its natural state with a small capacity guest lodge and cottages. Jekyll Island is owned by the state of Georgia and operated as a state park, with limited residential areas. Sea Island is owned by Sea Island Acquisitions, LLC, and is home to the world-famous Cloister resort and residential homes valued in the millions of dollars.[citation needed] Sapelo Island
The City of Brunswick traces its history back to early Colonial times, and the founding of the Georgia colony by General James Oglethorpe. From its earliest days, the port of Brunswick was important to the growth and economy of the new nation. In 1789, George Washington named Brunswick one of the five original ports of entry for the thirteen colonies.[3] During World War II, Brunswick hosted an important construction site for Liberty ships, and Naval Air Station Glynco, a major operational base for blimps.
The City of Darien traces its history back to the construction of Ft. King George in 1722, and later becoming of the second oldest city in Georgia, chartered in 1736. James Oglethorpe laid out the city plan for Darien, noted for its squares and grid pattern much like Savannah, which he also planned. Fort Federica on St. Simons Island was later constructed to protect the City of Darien and its important commerce.
Tourism is the most important economic driver in the Golden Isles, with an estimated 2.4 million visitors in 2014.[4] Other key components of the local economy include the Port of Brunswick, Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, aviation support services, and manufacturing. Travelers to the area arrive primarily via Brunswick Golden Isles Airport and Interstate 95. McKinnon St. Simons Island Airport serves general aviation.

Table Rock is a mountain in the east rim of Linville Gorge, part of Pisgah National Forest (Grandfather Ranger District) in North Carolina. It features a distinctive rock formation, and is a prominent peak in the area.[2]
The peak makes for a quick hike from a nearby parking area, and is also very popular for rock climbing.[3] It is described as having a "national reputation of being the best place to climb in the Southeastern U.S.",[3] and the "hub of climbing activity in Linville Gorge".[4]
Table Rock is also known for its flora. Botanists André Michaux and John Fraser found various plants in the area in the nineteenth century. Fraser discovered Fraser's Sedge near the mountain.[3]
Table Rock has been described as "the most visible symbol in the region".[3] Former North Carolina senator Sam Ervin said that he retired to the nearby town of Morganton to "watch the glorious sunsets over Table Rock".[5] In addition, Jules Verne's novel Master of the World describes Table Rock, which is called Great Eyrie in the book, as "rising high above the valley to sometimes belch strange sounds and fire over the little village of Morganton".[3]
A wildfire swept through the area in November 2013. At least one hundred firefighters were involved.[6]

6 Reasons I Prefer A Sit On Top Kayak, Over A Sit Inside
Rather than a sit-inside kayak where your legs are trapped within the kayak’s shell, a sit-on-top is exactly what the name states. You basically sit on top of the kayak and your legs are completely free.
But considering a sit-inside kayak generally provides better performance, here are some of the weird reasons I prefer a sit-on-top kayak.
My Camera - https://amzn.to/3fTXmKf
1. They’re More Comfortable
Sit on top of kayaks are much more comfortable. Instead of your legs being claustrophobic in a small shell, they have much more breathing room. And if you’re anything like me on a relaxing paddle, you can even throw your feet off to the side. They’re also wider kayaks giving you more space.
2. Added Stability
Sit-On-Top kayaks are slightly more stable making the trek easier and more relaxing.
3. Don’t Fill Up With Too Much Water
Unlike sit-inside kayaks where they fill up and hold water, sit-on-top kayaks generally release water through the floor holes. Sit-Inside Kayak users often times need a Bilge Hand Pump to remove the built-up water.
4. Fear Of Flipping Upside Down
While many of you might think this is a dumb selling point for a sit-on-top, my guess is some of you watched too many videos of kayakers in a sit-inside kayak flipped under a rapid and got stuck upside down. Thus, sparking fear of kayaking. While it’s incredibly rare to find rapids tough enough to flip you upside down in the first place, a sit-on-top instantly erases that fear. Just be sure to wear a life vest if you’re planning on tackling rapids!
5. Fishing
Sit-On-Top Kayaks are much better for fishing since you have more freedom to move around and the added storage space on top of the boat in hand reach. Many also have integrated fishing rod holders. And in case you catch a big one, the added stability of the sit-on-top is definitely needed.
6. Easier To Get On & Off
This reason isn’t a huge deal but sit-on-top kayaks are much easier to get in and out of. If you’re planning on kayaking a long day with various stops to mini islands, random shores, rope swings, or waterfalls, a sit on top will be more convenient.

The Chimney's is located in Linville Gorge North Carolina. In our opinion, this hike is the closest to a fable fantasy movie of any hike we've been to so far.

The Linville Gorge Wilderness ("The Grand Canyon of North Carolina") is the third largest wilderness area in North Carolina (after Shining Rock Wilderness and Joyce-Kilmer Slickrock Wilderness) and one of only two wilderness gorges in the Southern United States (along with Bald River Gorge Wilderness in Tennessee).[1] Maintained by the United States Forest Service, it comprises 11,786 acres (47.7 km2) around the Linville River, and is situated inside the Pisgah National Forest. The river is approximately 1,400 feet (400 m) below the ridge, thus hiking in and out of the Gorge is challenging and enjoyable for those who like serious hiking. The plant and animal community is extremely diverse, with a dense hardwood/pine forest and a wide variety of smaller trees and other plants as well as bear, fox, raccoon, trout, grouse, wild turkey, vultures, owls, hawks, copperheads, and timber rattlesnakes. Popular tourist attractions in or near the wilderness are[citation needed]:

TheCozy Review | Compact Outdoors Pocket Blanket for Beach or Picnics
This compact portable beach towel and/or outdoor picnic blanket is a useful thing for your trips. It's sand-resistant, water-resistant, stays cool in the hot sun, durable, affordable, and portable. I highly recommend it, if you don't want to sit on the bare ground or sand.

Biking an Easy Trail Near Lake Allatoona | Iron Hill
In this video, I mountain bike an easy trail in Cartersville, Georgia at Red Top Mountain State Park called Iron Hill. This scenic trail is easy but within scenic nature and near lake Allatoona with many split-offs leading to the lake.

Red Top Mountain State Park is a state park in the U.S. state of Georgia. It is located in the northwestern part of the state, on the northwestern edge of metro Atlanta, in southeastern Bartow County near Cartersville. Named for iron-rich Red Top Mountain,[1] the park covers 1,776 acres (6.32 km2) on a peninsula jutting north into Lake Allatoona, formed on the park's north and east sides by the Etowah River arm and on the west by Allatoona Creek arm.
During the 1864 Atlanta Campaign of the American Civil War, the Battle of Allatoona Pass was fought on a battlefield near the park. (The battle of Allatoona Pass National Historical Registry Marker is across Lake Allatoona on the south side, off Allatoona Road, or the Emerson exit off Interstate 75.) The park's main popularity however comes from being near Atlanta, and just off Interstate 75. It is one of the most-visited parks in the state. A modern lodge was constructed in 1985, but closed, along with the restaurant and conference rooms, June 30, 2010, due to statewide budget cuts.
