Jade Mutua: Met Police officer 'not at fault' for killing aspiring social worker
Metropolitan Police officer who killed a woman whilst doing twice the speed limit in response to a knife gang call has been cleared by the police watchdog. PC Gary Watkinson was racing at 62mph in a 30mph zone to reports of a woman being threatened with a knife by a group just before 10pm on August 13, 2019, when he struck and killed Jade Mutua on Warwick Road in Kensington.
At 9.54pm, the 22-year-old from West Hampstead entered the road next to a parked Land Rover Freelander and was hit by PC Watkinson's car at 53mph, according to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
She sustained serious injuries and, despite the efforts of officers who gave her first aid at the scene, she died in hospital two days later.
An inquest, which ended on October 12 at Westminster Coroner’s Court, found the aspiring social worker died as a result of a road traffic accident. Now an IOPC investigation, which looked at the actions of police officers before the collision and the first aid they gave at the scene, has concluded those involved 'acted in accordance with the relevant policies and procedures'.

CCTV footage shows moments leading up to a Metropolitan Police sergeant's fatal shooting in custody
#trending #shocking #viral #ukpolice #custody #metpolice #londontiktok #uknews #uktiktok
Footage of the moments before an alleged gunman shot dead a custody sergeant at “close range” has been released by Scotland Yard.
Louis De Zoysa, 25, is said to have smuggled a loaded antique revolver in a holster into Croydon police station, south London, on September 25, 2020 before shooting Sergeant Matthew Ratana, 54.
Northampton crown court has been told four shots were fired, with two hitting Ratana, who died from a chest wound.
De Zoysa, of Banstead, Surrey, was wounded in the neck, causing brain damage. He has been charged with Ratana’s murder, which he denies.
Jurors watched the footage for 80 minutes. Scotland Yard released an edited eight-minute version yesterday. The footage, a combination of CCTV and body-worn video, showed De Zoysa being arrested and taken to the police station in a van before being put in a cell.
Imran Khan KC, for the defence, has said his client accepts he fired the gun but he is “not guilty of murder” because he was suffering from an abnormality of mental function.
The case continues.
