1970 Oldsmobile 442 W30 Convertible in PLUM CRAZY at 2022 MCACN Show Muscle Car Of The Week
This amazing 1970 Oldsmobile 442 W-30 convertible is wearing an unusual color for an Oldsmobile, it's actually a factory Chrysler color called Plum Crazy Purple! However, this amazing car was painted by General Motors in this Chrysler color back in 1970 and is considered correct for the car. How can this be? We got the whole story from restore Allan Steinbock at the 2022 Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals show in Chicago.
This is not just a pretty face, as this 442 features the 455 V8 engine with the W-30 performance package, including an aluminum intake manifold, hotter camshaft, tuned carburetor, and other blue-printed engine parts. It also features sport suspension, and the W 27 rear axle as well.
Although it is not a typical car, it is typical of the types of amazing and rare muscle cars found each year at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals Show in Chicago, we hope to see you there!

2023 SEMA Show TMI TRIM Awards Entry Video SEMA Show Car Interior Awards
The TMI TRIM Awards at The SEMA Show 2022 set the industry on fire. With the lack of awards from a few companies that are normally at the show, TMI Products stepped up to give the recognition that these builders deserved. Builders from all over the world entered for the coveted title of Best of Show – but only one amazing ride was able to take home that trophy.
ENTER HERE: https://www.tmiproducts.com/blog/tmi-s-trim-awards-2023
Seven other winners were awarded in their respective classes and the TMI TRIM Awards were firmly cemented into the SEMA Show history books. After the week, coverage spread like wildfire of the TRIM Awards and they were seen by over 57 million enthusiasts.
The TMI TRIM Awards pay homage to the craftsmen who hand cut, stitched, and designed all the amazing interiors at SEMA. Too often though, the paint, wheels, or engine received most all of the recognition – no longer is that the case where TMI is now honoring fellow tradesmen who have perfected their craft.
TMI Products has been hand crafting some of the finest automotive upholstery for over 40 years now. With 40 years in the rear-view mirror, it was time to give back to the community and recognize those special builders. TMI is continuing this new tradition with the TRIM Awards for the 2023 SEMA Show.
Last years Best of Show winner wasn’t even a TMI Products interior, showing how serious TMI is about recognizing the best of the best. In fact, TMI doesn’t even choose the winners; for that, a completely independent panel of six industry veterans go over every inch of the car and then determine the winners.
The expert panel of judges include:
- Kevin Oeste- The Voice of the SEMA Show and TRIM Awards Host, V8 Speed & Resto Shop Owner
- Sean Holman- Owner of Use For Adventure and Co-Host of The Truck Show Podcast
- Sara Morosan- Owner of LGE-CTS Motorsports, 2021 SEMA Person of the Year, Multi-time Ford Design award winner
- Theresa Contreras- owner of Baja Forged, Multi-time Ford Design award winner, PPG Brand Ambassador
- Marcel Venable- co-owner of AutoRevolution on Amazon Prime, OBS-Clash, Car Guy Confessions Podcast
- Jason Mulligan- co-owner of AutoRevolution on Amazon Prime, OBS-Clash, Car Guy Confessions Podcast
The TMI TRIM Awards are designed to not only honor the builds and the craftsmen behind it, but to celebrate them in a public fashion. Wednesday November 1st at Noon all the judges and builders will convene at the stage in the TMI Products booth. Here, the judges will go over some of the highlights and announce winners in front of the entire Central Hall at The SEMA Show 2023.
The trophies are just as unique and custom as the interiors and can easily be hoisted in the air in a show of appreciation and accomplishment during the awards ceremony. While there are a few winners, only one ride will be crowned as the Best of Show!
To be eligible for the TRIM Awards, you need to have a vehicle that’s registered and on display at the SEMA Show 2023. There are categories for TMI-equipped vehicles, and categories for non-TMI-equipped vehicles. Having a TMI-equipped vehicle though does not offer a better chance of winning, as proven by last year's Best of Show winner, that was not TMI-equipped.
TRIM Awards Categories include:
Best Car –Open to any car that features TMI seats
Best Truck –Open to any truck that features TMI seats
Best Custom SUV or Wagon –Open to any SUV or wagon, either two-door or four-door
Best Full Interior –Open to any vehicle of any type that is running a full TMI interior. A full TMI interior includes all the available components from that model line
Most Creative –Best usage of patterns, colors, and overall execution
Best Color-Matching –Best usage of patterns, colors, and stitching that matches vehicle exterior
Best Custom Car Interior (open to all Cars at the show) –Can be any vehicle with any type of custom interior
Best Custom Truck Interior (open to all Trucks at the show) –Can be any vehicle with any type of custom interior
Fan Favorite (Chosen Online) –Finalists that the TRIM Award Judges have chosen will be voted online by fans worldwide.
Best of Show Champion –Judges will vote on their favorite interior of SEMA 2023 and crown it with the TRIM Award’s highest honor
SEE WEBSITE FOR COMPLETE RULES AND INFO AND ENTRY FORM
https://www.tmiproducts.com/blog/tmi-s-trim-awards-2023
Judging for the 2023 SEMA Show TRIM Awards will begin Tuesday afternoon October 31st with the announcement from TMI’s SEMA booth of the top 20 vehicles. Competitors are encouraged to register online to let judges know where to find their vehicles.
The crowning of the inaugural TRIM Champion will take place on November 1st at TMI Products SEMA booth #24477, 12:00 noon PST.

1968 Dodge Coronet Fitting Trim After Panel Replacement Before Paint V8 Speed and Resto Shop
We replaced many of the body panels on this 1968 Dodge Coronet in the V8 Speed and Resto Shop. Before the car goes to the body shop and is painted, we always check to make sure all the trim, door handles, bumpers, grille, and other items fit the car properly so there are no surprises after paint.
1968 Dodge Coronet Fitting Trim After Panel Replacement Before Paint V8 Speed and Resto Shop
Today, we're back here in the fabrication shop at the V8 Speed and Resto Shop with a really cool project we're working on. This is a 1968 Dodge Coronet 500, and it's gray, and some is bare steel, but it's kind of put together. So, what's that all about, right? Well, this car has had some extensive metal work done to it, and before it goes to the body and paint shop side, we always like to test fit all the trim – so the grills, the window trim, the mirrors, and all that stuff – while it's still in primer.
As you see, the car has been completely media blasted and sprayed with a gray epoxy primer, and certain areas are bare steel where we've been doing some welding and some panel gap fitment, and some fixing of rust in the back and things like that. But that's the point where we say, "Things look pretty good. Let's see how they fit," because the last thing you want to do is go through the metal side without test fitting the trim, send it all the way through the body shop, paint the car, and then go to put the trim on it and find out, "Oh, now it doesn't fit right." And why wouldn't it fit? Maybe it's a new handle, maybe it's a reproduction handle, maybe there's a subtle curve in a door or a quarter panel or something that just could be nicer, and you wouldn't have picked it up until you put those pieces together.
So here in the Fab shop is where we do this kind of stuff, and it's always neat to see a car mock- assembled before it gets disassembled again for paint. And this one's cool because it's a 383 car from the factory. It's 330 horsepower, 425 foot-pounds of torque, the engine's brand new, and the fresh suspension's all been redone, so everything on this car is going to be essentially brand new when it's finished. But taking this step helps make sure the final product is everything you want it to be.
If you've got a project car, some kind of restoration you want, or even a custom hot rod that you really want to fit nice, let us know. We've got a form you can fill out on our website at https://www.v8peedshop.com, and we're happy to chat with you. And who knows, maybe we'll shoot a video of your car in the state here in our Fabrication shop.

Custom 1964 Corvette Build #v8speedshop Full Size Hot Wheels Car
Custom 1964 Corvette Build #v8speedshop
Full build video on this custom 1964 Chevrolet Corvette:
https://youtu.be/c6OdNjs_Td0
We've all wanted a full-size version of our favorite Hot Wheels car, and this custom 1964 Chevrolet Corvette built at the V8 Speed and Resto Shop makes that dream come true! The restomod Corvette build features custom paint, performance suspension upgrades from Global West, new disc brakes, and a Holley Sniper EFI system install on the Edelbrock 350 crate engine.
The main part of the project was repainting the Corvette in custom colors. The goal was to give the overall appearance of a full-size Hot Wheels car, a car that is fun to look at and drive! Custom C2 Corvettes can be controversial, as changing a C2 Corvette from original can hurt it's collector car market value. However, this 1964 Corvette did not have it's original engine any longer, and the exterior and interior had been changed from their original colors as well. This allowed for some freedom of expression to build a custom Corvette with a new paint job all it's own.

This custom Corvette video features disassembling the corvette, repairing the fiberglass body, and a bit of Corvette C2 history. The V8 Speed and Resto Shop paint department repaints the Corvette in Ermine White, then lays out the 3 color custom stripe design. We mask off the stripes and custom paint the Corvette in our downdraft Blowtherm paint booth, and spray a final clear coat.
The Chevrolet Corvette is truly America's Sports Car, and we feel this custom C2 corvette will excite any vintage sports car enthusiast.

1968 Oldsmobile 442 Dashboard Replacement at V8 Speed and Resto Shop
1968 Oldsmobile 442 Dashboard Replacement at V8 Speed and Resto Shop
Dashing Through The Fabrication Shop in a 1968 Oldsmobile 442 at the V8 Speed and Resto Shop
Check out the skilled craftsmanship happening at the V8 Speed and Resto Shop! 🔥 Our talented fabrication team is hard at work welding in a brand new dashboard into a super-cool 1968 Oldsmobile 442. This 442 sits on a Roadster Shop chassis but retains its original appearance.
One of the challenges was to repair the rusty dashboard, but without the support of a reproduction panel made specifically for Oldsmobiles. The solution - adapt a Chevelle piece, mating it to the Olds dashboard to retain the Olds speaker grille and vents while eliminating the rust. The fresh new dashboard is a combination of Chevelle parts and custom-made pieces, replacing the rusty original. The result is a seamless panel that looks like we were never there.
Stay tuned for more updates on this sweet restomod project. We can't wait to unveil the finished ride!

Fresh Paint on 1955 Ford 292 Y-Block at V8 Speed and Resto Shop
This 1955 Ford 292 Y-Block V8 was just rebuilt, and after being run and leak-checked on the test stand, our body technicians cleaned, prepped, and painted the engine before install. It's now wearing the correct red, albeit a bit shiner then it was in 1955! This "new" vintage Ford V8 engine is going back under the hood of a shiny black 1955 Ford Thunderbird.

1966 Dodge Coronet 500 Convertible Walk Around and Certicard V8 Speed and Resto Shop
1966 Dodge Coronet 500 Convertible Walk Around and Certicard V8 Speed and Resto Shop
We just brought in this very cool 1966 Dodge Coronet convertible. It's got a pretty neat story and a couple of very cool details we wanted to share with you. One is the story on this car.
Our customer's parents had one of these brand new back in 1966, and a few years ago, they wanted to recapture some of those memories. So they found this car. This is not their original, but it's a basically direct replacement. And over the years, our customer has ended up with the car from her parents and they want to get it back on the road and dialed in so that they can enjoy it. And they have younger children who are both interested in driving this car as well. So it's truly a legacy / family heirloom type of vehicle. It's got 383 under the hood with an automatic transmission with a bucket seat interior. But one of the coolest details is found under the hood right behind the driver's side headlight.
A lot of these 1966 and 1967 Dodge, Chrysler, and Plymouth cars had a little thing found in a slot called a Certicard. A Certicard is a thing that the dealer used to keep track of the car for warranty purposes. It's got the VIN. It also has the build date of the car, which in this case was May 17th of 1966, and the delivery date when it was first sold of October of 1966.
But it also has the original owners name and the dealership where it was sold. There's also color codes on this so that we know that this car was originally a saddle tan with a with a tan interior. So it's been repainted and there are some non-original elements on the car. The 383 is now fueled by a FAST EZ EFI system, and it's got an upgraded MSD ignition and an aluminum radiator.
Inside, they added some aftermarket bucket seats and a few things. When you find a Certicard, it's it's pretty unusual, especially if the Certicard VIN matches the VIN of the actual car, which in our case it does. So if you ever find one of these things laying around, you might want to reach out to some Mopar groups or put it up on eBay, because if you find one that's got a VIN and somebody has the car, they're going to want to keep this with it anyway.
Just kind of a neat little detail we found here at the VH being Resto Shop and this cool 1966 Dodge Coronet 500 convertible.

Plymouth AAR Cudas and Dodge Challenger T/As at Brothers Collection Museum Muscle Car Of The Week
Plymouth AAR Cudas and Dodge Challenger T/As at Brothers Collection Museum Muscle Car Of The Week
The 1970 Plymouth Cuda AAR and the 1970 Dodge Challenger T/A are two amazing muscle cars that have their roots steeped in SCCA Trans Am racing. In this video, an excerpt from the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals special shot at The Brothers Collection, we hear from AAR and Challenger T/A expert Dave Wise about what makes these street fighters so special. From the unique 340 in.³ V8, the high-performance suspension, the exclusive staggered wheels, and the side exit exhaust to the amazing graphics package and available High Impact colors, the 1970 Plymouth AAR Cuda and the Dodge Challenger T/A remain some of the most sought after Muscle Cars of all time.
It’s interesting to deconstruct the AAR in the context of the day. The AAR model was Plymouth’s street version of the comparable Trans Am series race car, as the rules of Trans Am stated that the automaker had to produce 2500 consumer copies of any race car campaigned in the series. Chevrolet had the Z/28 Camaro, Ford had Boss 302 Mustangs, AMC had the Javelin, and Plymouth chose to name theirs after Dan Gurney’s All American Racers team, who built and raced in the Trans Am series with highly modified Cudas like this one. To my knowledge, the AAR is the only production car named after the race team that used the car in a series. Or am I wrong? Shelby was the racer’s name, but they also built the original GT350 cars. Unfinished Mustangs left the line to be completed at the Shelby shop. In this case, AAR Cudas were completely built on the regular Hamtramck Michigan Plymouth assembly line, so it’s not like they left as unfinished bodies that were completed in the AAR race car facility.
The SCCA rulebooks stated that if a part special to the race car, a street version had to exist. So if the race car had special body modifications like spoilers, the street version had to have that as well. Certain safety items, roll cages, padding, and the like, didn’t have to be used on the street cars. It was cool to see that the Sports Car Club Of America sanctioning body did allow for the use of aftermarket performance parts on the race cars, provided that they were integrated in to the Original Equipment Manufacturer’s parts catalog. There are a lot of cool speed parts stamped with factory numbers on Trans Am cars.
Race versions had to run a 305 or smaller cube V8, but Chrysler didn’t have one of those, so the 340 was allowed for production. These were very stout blocks built with huge main bearing webs to support the forged crankshaft and 10.5: compression pistons.
It made 290 HP, Or at least that’s what Plymouth told the public. The 340 6-barrel was rated at 290 HP just like the Boss 302 and Z/28 in the competition, but we’ve seen dyno tests up around 320 HP for these engines. You could get a 4-speed or an automatic like this car, and the rear is stuffed with a Sure-Grip 3.55 gearset. These knocked-down mid 14-second quarter mile times, but they were really more about slot-car racing on open roads.
The AAR is a total package car, with improvements made to the suspension and body as well as the engine. Most obvious is the AAR logo-capped Strobe Stripe blinking out a pattern from back to front, leading the eye to the Organasol black textured fiberglass pinned down hood. These elements don’t jump out quite as much on a dark green car, but they still look awesome. The rear spoiler looks great from the back or the front, and is contoured nicely to the rear of the car. Bright rally wheels with staggered tires hide front disc and rear drum brakes, and specially muffled side pipes blast everyone you pass. Wide-eyed fog lights look to the future, and turn signals are hidden above the grille. Stiffer torsion bars and shocks work with the oversized sway bar to keep the AAR flat in the turns.
We dig the 150 MPH speedo and 8000 RPM tach, and a 4-way gauge shows oil pressure, temp, fuel and electrical juice. Below sits an AM tuner, and above is a clock… with delta at 0 minutes and hours on the inner ring. This AAR also sports a bench seat with a fold down armrest to keep the driver from sliding out the passenger window under hard left turns. This car has no frills.. And it doesn’t need any.

1971 Pontiac GTO Judge 455 4-Speed Pilot Car Restored at MCACN Muscle Car Of The Week

1971 Pontiac GTO Judge 455 4-Speed Pilot Car Restored at MCACN Muscle Car Of The Week
We originally featured this great-looking 1971 Pontiac GTO Judge Pilot car on episode 338 of Muscle Car Of The Week, and now it has just been unveiled at the 2022 Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals with a new owner and completely restored! Gary Riley of Level One Restorations takes us through the car.
PRE-RESTORATION VIDEO: https://youtu.be/QUpWdezpa-k
It’s believed to be the first ‘71 Judge off the line, and it was used as an evaluation car to confirm assembly procedures and details for the ‘71 Judge program.
And a cool history, the car has indeed. You may recall that the original Judge concept was to sell a low-frills GTO to compete with other bare-bones Muscle Cars like the Plymouth Roadrunner. However, It’s interesting to note that the Judge began to pick up extra equipment over the years, and by ‘71, you could get almost anything you wanted on the Judge. This one is lots of comfort options like power steering and brakes, comfy bucket seats, pushbutton radio with an 8-track, and wood grain dash trim.
The original dealer is noted as Pontiac Motor Division Engineering Development on the invoice, and when you couple that with the low sequence VIN and the early production date, you have further evidence of this car’s place in GTO Judge history.
But this 1971 GTO Judge is not just cool because of the pilot car status. It’s a fully-stocked rockin’ machine featuring all kinds of signature Pontiac goodies, starting with the 455 HO engine. The 455 got the round port Ram Air IV cylinder heads to help it breathe through the aluminum intake manifold, resulting in 335 HP, but also churned up 480 lb-ft of torque as soon as you stabbed the throttle. All that twist worked up the heavy-duty clutch and close-ratio Muncie 4-speed transmission, but the Safe-T-Trac rear end did what it could to put the power to the pavement.
1971 saw the revised nose design on GTOs, and this one is made from the flexible Endura material. The rear wing adds to the speedy look, as do the color-keyed side sport mirrors. Honeycomb wheels and raised white letter tires complete the look.
Our first feature of the car showed it in mostly original condition, and now it is as fresh as brand new. What do you think? These are the kinds of cars you can see in person at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals in Chicago!

1967 Pontiac GTO Restoration and Unveiling Video V8 Speed and Resto Shop GTO Full Build
1967 Pontiac GTO Restoration and Unveiling Video V8 Speed and Resto Shop GTO Full Build - https://www.v8speedshop.com/contact
This 1967 GTO Restomod frame off restoration started with a car that looked like it had been dragged out of a swamp. This '67 GTO was originally Tyrol Blue with a black vinyl top, a black bucket seat interior, the Pontiac 400 for barrel V8 under the hood, and was coupled to a turbo 400 automatic transmission. The car was built with factory installed air conditioning, power brakes, and power steering. However, over time, this 67 GTO badly rusted and deteriorated and was in need of a total restoration.

18:54 1967 GTO Reveal at Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals Show
Once the car arrived at the V8 Speed & Resto Shop, our team evaluated the car and disassembled it, and started building the restoration plan. The '67 GTO frame required repairs on the body mounts, and a few other places, and the chassis was restored with Epoxy primer and industrial paint finishes. The V8 crew installed a complete BMR fabrication tubular suspension system, similar to what would be seen on Chevelles, Oldsmobile 442s, Buick GS's, and other GM A-Body platform cars. The suspension system will allow the car to handle and perform better than originally, without sacrificing a comfortable ride.
The 1967 GTO body was media blasted, and the V8 Speed and Resto Shop fabrication shop went to work, replacing the quarter panels, installing a new trunk floor, replacing the cabin floor, repairing the dashboard, building a custom, firewall, replacing rocker panels, and much more. Once our 1967 Pontiac GTO’s rust and damage repairs were completed, it went into our body shop where all the panels were fitted perfectly, and sanded to perfection.
Meanwhile, our mechanical team refreshed the Pontiac 400 V8 and topped it with a FiTech fuel injection system for improved performance and reliability. The V8 Speed & Resto Shop paint department sprayed the GTO in a fresh two-stage Tyrol Blue, creating a show car quality paint finish with clear coat a mile deep.
The V8 Speed & Resto Shop’s Interior department restored the bucket seats, stripping the seats and repairing the frames, installing new seat foam and wrapping them with new reproduction seat covers. The V8 interior shop also refurbished the door panels, the dashboard, headliner, and all the various elements inside the car, and installed a new carpet.
Once the new fresh paint job was wet sanded and buffed to mirror perfection, the interior shop, crew installed a new vinyl top and began reassembling everything inside the car. This included a dashboard filled with gauges from Dakota Digital and a sound system from Custom Autosound, air conditioning from Vintage Air, and reproduction dashboard trim and console details.
The crew installed a Magnaflow stainless exhaust system to make the Pontiac 400 V8 engine, sing, and new wheels and tires were installed. Trim pieces from OPGI or use throughout the car to make everything crisp and new. The V8 Speed & Resto Shop team did amazing job restoring his car from start to finish, and you would not recognize it as being the same car and looking at the final product.
But perhaps one of the greatest satisfaction of this restoration was presenting the car to the owners at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals show in Chicago! The team unveiled the car to the owners and their family, and then the MCACN judges took over and scrutinized the car. It was judged in the Street Modified class, scoring 997 out of 1000 possible points! Our team is grateful for the opportunity to restore such a cool 1967 GTO for very nice people, and the Blue Ribbon was appreciated!
Weather it's a '67 GTO like this one, or a Mustang, Chevelle, Charger, or any other Muscle Car, the V8 Speed and Resto Shop team can help!

Jon Kaase Racing 427 Single Overhead Cam V8 FORD SOHC Cammer
This Jon Kaase Racing built Ford 427 SOHC is a big-inch aluminum version of the famous Single Overhead Cam ("Cammer") V8 that was banned from Nascar. This one makes over 820 horsepower, features an aluminum block, heads, and intake, and is topped with a pair of Holley throttle body EFI units. And it's not a 427... just a wee bit bigger on the displacement! We're installing it into a 1957 Ford Ranch Wagon at the V8 Speed and Resto Shop.. it's going to be a heck of a ride!

This Holley Sniper sits on a small block Chevy that we tuned at the V8 Speed and Resto Shop. The frame rate of the camera stops the motion of the spray, causing the droplets to create some interesting patterns.

1969 Dodge Charger Daytona 440 Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals 2022 MCACN

Do you want to build custom cars for a living? Click the link!
1969 Dodge Charger Daytona 440 Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals 2022 MCACN Muscle Car Of The Week
The 2022 Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals featured an unbelievable display called "Wings Over America", and it consisted of dozens of "Wing Cars", also known as 1969 Dodge Charger Daytonas and 1970 Plymouth Superbirds. These factory-built customs shared some of the same distinctive modifications made to their NASCAR racing counterparts. In fact, Dodge and Plymouth were required to build street-legal versions of their race cars in order for the race cars to be legal in NASCAR stock car racing. They called it "homologation", we call them awesome.
This amazing 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona is wearing a fantastic color combination of orange with a white interior and Daytona wing stripe. The owner claims the car is wearing most of its original sheet metal. The orange steel wheels with "dog dish" hubcaps and redline bias-ply tires look perfect on the car, and the original white interior still looks great today.
Under the extended hood you'll find a 440-4 barrel V8 backed by a 4-speed manual transmission. A Dana rear axle spins the tires.
Perhaps one of the greatest attributes of the car is how the owner drives the car as much as he can, with his wife and young kids on board. They all enjoy the ride... and who wouldn't love a bright orange and white Dodge Daytona? This video was shot at the 2022 Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals show in Chicago.
